I think this is the wrong way to go...by all means have online games but a lot of people enjoy the single player experience and a lot of people either aren't online or don't have Gold membership on Live. Here in Australia in particular our internet isn't up to the US: it's slower and costlier, and often there is lag.
I was frustrated by the lack of split screen support in multiplayer; this is going too far by far.
I'm very interested in getting SOCOM Confrontation, for example, but I don't relish the possiblity that it will be dominated by clans that spend too much time 'training' together and taking it much too seriously. I just want to be able to jump in without pressure and have a good time. Now it seems you have to co-ordinate all the time with others. What if I don't like those others? What if they don't like me or my way of playing (I'm not the best player...).
Online gaming should be inclusive and not intimidating (and that's not even counting the crap that goes on), but it isn't so for Atari to go all online is the wrong direction imo.
