Resistance 2 patch seems to have disabled multiplayer for (at least) those who were online when the patch went live

Resistance 1.4 patch updated the game @ 7:35am, but it seems as of 7:53 am the patch crashed the online portion of the game, as co-op and competitive doesn't work.
Will verify again, but I tried to start several games, to no avail, plus no other matches were on the system.
*UPDATE*
The patch may have only affected the people who were online when the
patch activated... a solution ...
