I found The Hurt Locker to be a far better movie than Avatar. Don't get me wrong. I liked the movie for what it was. However, I would've liked to see an actual plot and some character depth that didn't have me rolling my eyes every other second. Some of you are acting like this movie is the end all is all, but have you even seen any other movies to back up that claim for even this year alone.

Try the aforementioned Hurt Locker, (500) Days of Summer, Inglorious Basterds, District 9, Moon, Up in the Air, Precious, A Serious Man, In the Loop, etc. There are plenty of movies that did as good or better taking solely 2009 into account. "BEST MOVIE EVER!11!" hardly means anything anymore. At least for me, one of the best movies of all time would have to have a noteworthy script and direction. Avatar had one of these, but even then, I didn't see what was so groundbreaking about the direction either. Could someone tell me? I don't mean that in a pretentious way either. I'd just really like to know.

As it stands now, I still firmly hold The Hurt Locker as the best of the year, and hope Katheryn Bigelow becomes the first woman director to win an Oscar. The intensity in that movie is unparalleled. I could go on and on about the different shots she set up, and how she effectively used lighting to capture the dramatic angles and close-ups. It was more than just a war movie... compared to Avatar which is nothing but an action movie. The pacing alone makes it worth the price of admission. Each scene is orchestrated to immerse you into the lives of the bomb squad as they go through a year's rotation. I'd strongly recommend N4G to go see the movie. View

This was by far the best premiere shown at the VGA. Followed by the sequel to Arkham Asylum and True Crime. Everything else was mediocre, or just didn't show gameplay. View

@ raztad
Completely agreed. It's ridiculous to think people are already dismissing Uncharted 2 when it still looks better than just about every game released thus far. Matter of fact, the only game that I really feel matches it is POSSIBLY Heavy Rain. It still needs a bit touching up before it reaches that level, but it's extremely close.

Sure, we have yet to see the final build of FFXIII, but I highly doubt it has improved considerably since. And no, the art style doesn't make up for it. U2 had an amazing art style as well. In fact, I would say U2 does one better. I mean, just take a look at the crazy concept art. Anybody that says Japanese art is always better should never be taken seriously. What a joke.

Quit wishing this game to be something it's not. The same thing happened to FFXII. If you want a multiplatform game that truly pushes both systems despite the differences in which they operate, you should have picked up Dead Space. It deserved the sales, but was neglected by the "hardcore" gaming crowd. Ridiculous. Don't tell me you care about multiplatform games pushing hardware when you failed to pick up one of the greatest games of the past decade.

@ Immortal Kaim

Funny as U2 only needed to load once to stream all those textures in 720p goodness complete with IN-GAME rendered cutscenes. Among Thieves is a marvel per minute with a framerate that never stutters. The complex technology at use behind U2 is simply astonishing. If you're going to call out U2, get your facts straight. Among Thieves utilized every aspect of the SPU to keep the game running at all times no matter what you did. View

Heavy Rain has the best character models for sure, but I'd like to see some more work done to the environments. Once they hit that, I fully believe that Heavy Rain will be the best game graphically. Who knows, they could've already touched it up a bit since the last build they showed publically. I mean just look at this picture. INSANE! Makes my mouth water. :D View

I guess I'll be the odd man out. I prefer shorter games. I don't have all the time in the world, and I hate it when developers assume I do. Most 60+ hour games are packed with filler that I could care less about. There is such a thing as the cutting room floor you know. 10-20 hours is the sweet spot. I don't mind 4-8 hour campaigns either, as long as they are insanely fun or emotionally gripping. Games like ICO, Uncharted, and Heavy Rain are good examples of this. Most of my favorite games are rather short. Keep it short and fun. Everything else could be DLC. Of course, there are always exceptions. So I'm not exactly in argument with you, but I do largely prefer shorter games. View

I think the industry should start heading into this direction. Games have the potential to offer interactive experiences based on the choices we make; something movies can never offer. Games like Uncharted 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Silent Hill 2, Mass Effect, and Indigo Prophecy all fall under this banner. I'd rather have more games like those than any other. What I enjoy most about this game so far is the realistic consequences they have integrated into the gameplay. I remember mixing the painkillers and alcohol in my first play through of Indigo Prophecy. lol Elements like these raise this game to a level not even ME could touch. That is why Heavy Rain is currently my most anticipated game as of now. View

Just so you're aware. This isn't a Best Of list. This is just a bunch of games covering a whole bunch of different genres both good and bad for developers to pick apart and learn from. For instance they stress playing a lot of bad games so you can learn from their mistakes. Rather obvious, but then you have stuff like Left 4 Dead in their to learn how to do Co-Op, Portal for puzzles, Ico for artistic interactive experiences, etc. Just thought I would mention this before a bunch of users started blasting the list. They better be. We can't even get a priest to bless a same-sex marriage, but marrying a video game character is A-OK? ... I'm sorry, I'm speechless. ... o_o

yeah, there's no way they got a real priest to bless that. I'm calling fake. View

oh my god GAY SEX! The world is coming to an end. Who the f#ck cares? I for one appreciate Bioware's efforts in offering gaymers an opportunity to start relationships with the gender they feel drawn to. You think gaymers give a flying f#ck about banging Morrigan as a male, think again. At least now we can get a TRUE romantic experience in a genre that up 'til now was dominated by straight relationships. Personally, I would have gone with Alistair if I could. He's an awesome guy... in a virtual reality kind of way. :D

P.S. You should give the gay angle in Dragon Age a swing if you're straight, and see how we feel for once. View

I'd say this is enough to warrant a protest. People need to stop treating video games as if they were made for kids. View

should be cool

Let's not jump the gun here. Of course, they may have already been able to mess with it, so who know's. In that case, they could still be blowing smoke out their ass, but then again maybe what they say is legit. We won't know for sure until we're well into the new year. Probably Fall, but could be longer. View

Could someone tell me why Metacritic adds this as 100% when it is an A/A+? Should be a 92 or 95%, should it not? They've done this before: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, God of War Collection, etc. If a F is the lowest grade and they are reviewing on a scale of 13 due to D-, C+, etc, the score should be a 92 when crunched out. I'm guessing this is how 1UP wanted it, which I would say is extremely low considering how hard it is to pull off the rare A+. They deserve to be appropriately scaled. View

This I cannot argue. Purchasing used is the same as piracy. However, I do support used game sales when a console is dead. For example, finding Psychonauts for the Xbox is a b!tch. The only way to get it now is used. Same for Suikoden II. Then again, Sony and Microsoft are beginning to release classic titles from their older systems digitally. Soon there won't even be a good reason to buy used.

I suppose people who simply can't afford the $50-60 price tag should be able to participate. So in that case, used games do help. If the user likes it enough than they will theoretically support the developer in the future. People can only afford so much. Developers should be grateful they're even able to spend some money. Nevertheless, I'd prefer they wait for sales. In other words, I can empathize with both parties.

As for me, I have yet to buy a game for the 360, PS3, or Wii used. I've been a strong supporter of developers and publishers in hopes that they can make some profit this generation. I'm not offended by those who purchase used. I'll make up for the sales you guys couldn't. ; ) View

The key here should be profit. If video games start stealing all the consumers hard earned money, Hollywood will take notice. Until that happens, movies will remain king. As much as I'd like to see video games gain some spotlight, I do believe the two can coexist. They're entirely different art forms. ; ) View

Please not another. At least not this soon. Wait a while. How 'bout Half-Life 2: Episode 3 first. Come on now Valve! View

EA is better now than then. They stand for much more than sports titles now, and I will always appreciate their new IPs like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge. I hope more enjoy what they have to offer. View

I actually prefer shorter games. Experience is more important to me than length. I don't mind, so long as those few brief hours are incredibly kicka$$. View

I'd like to share in the excitement. All gamers, "xbot" or not, should play Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It is definitely my personal favorite this generation; probably ever. Such a good game. Do not let this opportunity pass by! Next up, Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Alan Wake, The Last Guardian, and Final Fantasy XIII. :D

P.S. These are just U.S. numbers. The game has already reached well over a million by now. View

**MASSIVE SPOILERS**

Close combat produced loads of blood if you beat 'em into a corner. Also, the Ice Cave level where you first meet the demon yetis, there were several butchered wolves in the area with very realistic blood depictions (read MOST realistic). You also have Nathan when he got shot by Flynn and was bleeding out on the train and Elena when the grenade went off. How exactly could U2: Among Thieves not be rated M? While the game didn't drop any F bombs that I'm aware of, the main characters would cuss like no tomorrow. ESRB should reevaluate the T rating for Uncharted 2. View

Yeah, Uncharted 2 surprised the sh!t out of me. Definitely should have been rated M. I could see the UDF getting away with a Teen rating, but not Among Thieves. Still my personal GotY though. View
