Clearly none of you read the article.

The writer makes more than clear that he has no problem with homage being paid. Where his frustration lies, is with the assumption by the audience, and the manipulation by the developers, that this game is labelled 'artsy', purely becuase of an aesthetic that Ueda has 'iconised'.
And I agree. The title might be great, but there's two things that are wrong with it:
-Let the establishment of the developer's own pedigree, not be off the back of another's work.
-And recognise the ultimate goal of moving the interactive medium forward, is forgotten when creative endeavours are aimed at recreation.
That's certainly how I see it.
