Shotty think about what you’re saying. The blu-ray is not only for pcs, it’s also for home entertainment thus a blu-ray player. Therefore, saying that Microsoft commands the pc does nothing when compared to all the brands of electronics that are commanded by the Sony title. Another thing I’m not sure of is the source of your information. Even if it pc manufacturers save “$100 million” when they don’t use Blu-ray software, since we are talking about more than just the pc here, what about the entertainment industry? You said that the DVD is popular because it “has little copy right protection so burning something onto DVD is quick and easy.” However, did you know that “DVD piracy costs studios close to $4 billion each year, approaching $5 billion by the end of the decade?” (

Now compare that to 100 million and think about whose losing more here and why one would chose Blu-ray over the HD-DVD, which as you said compared to the DVD, “is the same thing just with faster read speed and greater capacity.” To the entertainment industry, which is more of an innovation, a faster DVD or a Disc with greater copyright protection?
