HALO'S NOT BEING MILKED...
...if Halo's being milked then so is Madden and all the sports games, so is Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, and damn near every video game out there, right?

What's wrong with giving someone (Peter Jackson?) a chance on a new Halo story arch without Master Chief (Prequel? Sequel?) with a new perspective, say third person view? To expect MS to just move on after only three games is ridiculous, especially considering how successful the Halo games have been, critically and financially. Just give it a chance.... View

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GAMES, MAN...
...and if MS can pull out some major exclusives out of this deal, then maybe they go for it. Would love to see the next-gen return of Shenmue, Crazy Taxi, and Jet Set Radio (bubble for you 'ape007'--- memories...!), and as MS exclusives they could be big... Still, see this one as a major risk for MS. Why Sega when they could have had Bioware, or Pandemic, or 2K, or Tecmo, etc.? Why bother with Sega NOW? View

I LIKE THE $50 PRICE DROP...
...but I would like to see it in concert with some other moves by MS, like making the HDD standard by eliminating/revisioning the arcade (20GB HDD included?). Why not give us a break on the hard drive prices and at the same time introduce bigger ones to take over their price point? You could drop the 20GB to $49, introduce the new 60GB at $99, drop the 120GB to $129, and finally introduce a 200GB at the 120GBs former $179 price point. You would kill two huge obstacles for the 360 with one stone... eliminating 360 gamers' griping (legitimate griping by the way) about the HDDs being overpriced, and at the same time quell the outcry from gamers and developers for the HDD to be finally standardized. Not to mention MS would get to keep profitting on the new 60GB and 200GB HDDs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for E3.... View

THE PRICE CUT IS A WEAPON, BUT...
...not a deadly one. Sony is doing well enough now to NOT have to respond to any 360 price cuts. Sony has the advantage of giving you more for your money, and that kind of eats into the gains of a price cut. Also, echoing the comments of my esteemed N4G colleague 'Action Bastard,' (bubble for you) the 360 price cut is way overdue.

Still, it will move more units for MS, and isn't that the point? Hopefully this move will clear the way for Jasper and Valhalla, the end of Arcade/HDD solution, etc. Maybe then MS can focus on the DVD9 problem.... View

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE...
...a break on 360 HDD prices, to be honest. Would love to get my hands on the 120GB for $99 or less; I just refuse to pay $180 for it. I think its high time the 360 had an across-the-board price cut: $179 for Arcade (or just GET RID OF IT), $249 for Pro, $299 for new 60GB Pro, and $349 for Elite.

Love the idea of a new 60GB 360 HDD, but will we be able to buy separately from 360? And for how much? View

DON'T THINK THE WII IS A FAD...
...as much as casual gaming is a new expanding territory. Agree 100% with Captain Tuttle's comment (bubble for you) that the 125 million PS2 fans are among those buying Wii/DS instead of PS3s and Xbox 360s. I just don't see any next-gen $400+ gaming consoles selling 50 million+ consoles in the time provided before they would be considered obsolete, what 3-4 years? Hardcore gaming has priced itself out of the casual gaming realm, especially in this economy, and Wiis, DSs and even PSPs have stepped into that void.

On the PS3 vs. 360 front, there is no question that the PS3 is catching the 360. Hell, even MS expected that this year. I think that both Sony and MS must be worried about the hardcore gaming market, with AAA game development/marketing costs skyrocketing, with fewer and fewer AAA titles performing blockbuster sales. Both sides seem to be scaling back in order to reduce risks and continue profits. The good news for Sony is that all analysis has them catching MS unless something major and unexpected happens. The good news for MS is that that dark day won't be coming for awhile at the current pace of sales, perhaps long enough to get working on Xbox 720?

My question is how long before $400+ consoles, $60 games you trade in for $10, and unending $$ on HDTVs/accessories end up creating a downturn in gaming market? View

BECOMING MORE AND MORE...

DUDE LOOKED PRETTY CONFIDENT WHEN...

I WANT THAT DAMNED...
...TV tuner!! Who do we American/European gamers have to sleep with/pay off/get assassinated to get our own TV tuner for PSP? Anyway, love the new red and blue God of War & Madden respectively PSP special editions. Sticking with my silver Daxter pack, though. And I'll keep on dreaming about that TV tuner.... View

UH OH... OFFICIALLY WORRIED ABOUT THIS GAME...
...now that it has slipped to October. Was REALLY looking to finishing the summer with this game. Enjoyed the heck out of Saints 1, but Saints 2 risks being completely insignificant and most likely overlooked the later in the year it comes out. Too bad.... View

OKCOMPUTER... YOUR COMMENTS ARE EPICSUCCEED...
...bubble for you. By now there must be thousands upon thousands of FPSs that could be considered "epic fail." Your mention of "Perfect Dark Zero" is a perfect example of hype failing to pan out. Will have to play Haze before lumping it on top of that giant stack of FPS crap, but it doesn't look too good.... View

I THINK...
...MS is playing it safe. Agree with dcbronco (bubble for you) that MS may be wary of all the money being spent, and after FINALLY turning a profit on the 360, they want to continue to solidify their position, especially when you consider that the 360 will be three years into its cycle. MS has had enough bad press with RRoD and the lack of a standardized HDD etc. They know that this year Sony has a lot of big guns and they are going to counter as best they can, but in a low-key fashion. Continued profit is the key. If they can stay even with PS3 while staying profitable, a successor to the 360 is guaranteed.... View

WHAT DID LUKE SKYWALKER AND HAN SOLO SAY IN THE STAR WARS MOVIES?
"I've got a bad feeling about this."

Agreed 100% that if we get no NEW MATERIAL on this game by E3, then you can write off 2008 and most of 2009 for its release. Damn disappointing, especially for MS, who could use all the AAA exclusives it can get this year... still, if Ubi Montreal can get it together, there's still hope for a knockout game... eventually... I do miss Sam Fisher.... View

I CAN SEE...
...Sega getting back into the console wars, but not this generation. The Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 have got this gen on LOCK, with nearly every base of gaming covered.

It's been said here and I'll say it again... Sega needs to fix its own house before worrying about a new console. Get three or four million-plus selling game franchises under your feet, THEN get with AMD/ATI or NVidia or Intel like Horny Melon said, find a way to come up with a state of the art machine for $299, bundle a classic Sega game package inside and you might have a chance? Maybe?

Still have great times with my Dreamcast-- it was truly ahead of its time. Who knows... if Sega had quickly upgraded to DVD and gotten a few more exclusives.... View

@ 2.2 LASTDANCE...
...agree that once you have experienced HD in 'Piano Black' (40" & up), you just can't go back, the details are so clear and crisp that everything else pales in comparison. My brother just got his first HDTV, a 47" LCD, and it was a real treat to watch his jaw drop down to the floor just like mine did all those years ago on a cold November night in 2005. There is nothing like turning on an HDTV for the first time in your own space...

Still, just because you WANT to upgrade doesn't mean that you can afford it, or that you'll do it at all costs. For a lot of people right now, that's just not possible when gas and groceries will break ya.... View

DVD IS TOO BIG OF A MARKET...
...to just be 'discontinued,' just like that. Can you imagine the response, the pure hate that would rain down on that move? You are talking about people who have DVD collections in the hundreds and thousands, forcing them to upgrade when frankly most movie fans are satified with DVD could be--- would be disastrous. Blu-ray will just have to persevere until it cannot afford to compete with DVD on price, and by the looks of it, that is a long way off.... View

QUESTION IS...
...can the powers-that-be who oversaw the introduction of HD discs AFFORD for Blu-ray to soldier on as a "niche product?" And if so, for how long?

The sad fact is that the way things are nowadays, most people are more than content (or have no choice but to be content) with DVD upscaling at under $100, with $5 DVD bins and the like.... View

PERSONALLY, I STILL WISH...
...Toshiba had been able to stay in the game awhile longer. The competition was sooooo good for us consumers, who right now in this economy need more and more justification to make these kind of purchases. Not to mention all the buzz for HD discs created by the war. I know for a fact that Blu-ray prices (players and discs) have gone back up since the end of the format war, and as a result those discs/players are gathering dust on store shelves. I mean literally, I brushed some dust off a Samsung BR player at Best Buy they were selling for $499 the other day. In a weak economy, competition is a major driver for sales. There can be no doubt the Blu-ray is struggling right now. But Hell, so is everything else. Even the videogaming industry, with its record-breaking numbers, is becoming more and more a feast-or-famine situation, with the little guy being squeezed out of the picture (sort of like the middle-class?) and studios being closed left and right, if they're not being swallowed by the big fish....
