Stop the madness that is gameplayer.com.au

    I am writing this as a disclaimer to gameplayer.com.au as a flame bait site that has no reason to be brought up on N4G.
News is news, as many a great mind will most likely tell you. But what is really worth your time in actually thinking about? Fox news has recently come under fire for its overly critical roll in trying to defame video games, as well as anything related to them in an attempt to get people thinking of things that are not important, but hide the facts of some of the most crucial, ie. Irac war.

Why am I talking about Fox news as if it has anything to do with gameplayer.com.au?
It really doesn't even relate to fox in anyway. Or does it?
Lets just break it down a bit to get a feel of what i feel is a well intended smack in the face to the readers/views.
What makes Fox news so bad?
1.)They lie to there views.
2.)They don't collect all the info, or even both sides at times.
3.)They tend to twist things into there own opinion to make it sound like fact.
4.)They accuse persons, places, or things of wrong doing when clearly they are out of touch with reality.
5.)They bring up news that has already been dealt with possibly years ago by other news groups.
6.)They bring things up just the get people on edge and "up in arms" over the smallest of things (sensationalism)

Out of these 6 examples, can you see any of them falling under gameplayers.com.au?

If you do not see anything wrong with this so called web site, I can not call you a fanboy, or a hater, or anything game related.
This site is basically nothing worth my own, and I truly believe, the readers of N4G's time.

I am not talking as a single console fan, I am speaking as a gamer that hates being feed rubbish not even worthy of a pigs dinner.

I didn't really notice how bad they were before. I never visited the site regularly anyway. I have noticed a little sensationalism from them, however, and I'm not a big fan of that.

I think though that you would only be sensitive to it, if you have something to protect, and I am firm believer everyone has some fanboy in them. And the journalism isn't awful, so there is only one reason.

And this sort of sensationalism [I would say that's too harsh a word] isn't exactly uncommon in media. At least from English speaking outlets.

I especially think you are referring to the Microsoft losing GTA articles, because, there is SOME truth to them, but they are admittedly very opinionated. Are these the articles you are referring to?

Well, I was speaking of their articles in general, not just the GTA one, although that was obviously flamebait. I never really had an opinion of them, at least, I wasn't actively thinking about it, but this blog has reminded me of quite a few things I've read on their site.

Btw, yes, I do have my preferences, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I have any fanboy in me at all, it just means one system happens to get more play time than the others :)

You can search N4G for them in the search bar and find people posting there reviews on pretty much everything, but only half or so seem to actually be real reviews.

I again, will not put links to anything from them as they don't deserve clicks worth anyones time.

In respect to 'fanboys'

I think that's what that word should come to mean, it has such negative connotations, but I think it should be a positive thing becuase you are proud and support your purchase.

Either way, more playtime doesn't make you a fanboy, I agree.

And also, I am glad to see that it's not just the GTAIV artciles, and actually just below average journalism. It's not bad jounralism by any means, becuase the wiritng isn't bad, but yes, it does seem to be a bit strange.

the site is not worth reading. however, i watch all news channels, each has a different spin. in fact fox news has very little news. its prime time line up are opinion shows; oreilly, hannity and colmes, ect. just like msnbc has count down with keith olberman and cnn has anderson cooper 360 and larry king.
when opinions are tried to be passed off as facts then i have a problem with it, whether it be fox news, cnn, msnbc, or gameplayers.com

Your absolutely right.
It can be taken as if I'm promoting the site, but that is completely the opposite to what I'm trying to accomplish.
The point of this was not to show the examples, as you can search the N4G posts for there rubbish, I didn't want any examples on here if people have already been to there site.
This is basically just trying to warn people to stay away from it if they see it as its not worth it.
If I make another blog about it, I'll see about putting links to N4G posts, but not there site.

For me gameplayer.com.au died when they started posting BRUTALLY inaccurate (bordering in made up facts or direct contradictions to dev statements) "previews" of certain games (Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3 come to mind), apart from that I think its pretty obvious the very sensationalist way they have been handling certain topics (for example the flamebait title of their Ninja Gainden 2 preview)

I started to notice that their articles were a little exaggerated. They would post one article like "OMG R* screws MS!!!!!!" then the next day.... "OMG R* doesn't really screw MS they screw Sony!!!!!!"

It just got really annoying and now while I still tend to read the site (only when it comes up on N4G), I take it with a grain of salt.

I don't want to tell you how to do your job, and god knows I would hate that my self, so the thing I really don't like are the things that I see that make people ignorant.
Sorta like atheists think religion is a bunch of crap, and how religion trys to make evolution into a religion, or science in general.

Again, If its your site, it wasn't meant as a personal attack, just that I find the articles not to my liking and have been very vocal about it.

when people try and twist and turn others opinions into something they are not just to satisfy their own agenda.

I hate the whole fanboy/console war thing. It sickens me. But I do believe in consumers knowing the full story and I see these articles as some of the few out there that are actually willing to examine the behind closed doors shenanigans that are going on: and you just shoot them down blindly. I doubt you even read them and if you do, you probably don't try to actually understand what is being said. You go in with a preconception that it is trying to incite wars, what chance can you have? People used to hate getting manipulated by corporations, now it seems they'll fight for 'em, even if they getting screwed in the process.

Sorry for calling you an idiot. That was lame - I was frustrated. I just don't appreciate having you come into conversations you clearly don't want to be involved in just so you can wave your flag and bring attention to yourself.
