Yeah Fanboyism did exist but not the the extent we see now.
We didn't have live coverage of gaming events streaming via the internet when we were playing NES and Sega Master Systems.
We didn't have huge forum areas where we could rant and rave without fear of reprecution or pissing off friends.
We didn't have all the mediums we have now and even with the insane amounts of information you still see the most narrow minded individuals the world could produce spouting idiocy, bias and racism over XBL, N4G and every other medium you can see and making what used to be a fun experience for me and my friends into a QQ fest with kids... Has teh author seen the industry change? Yes and we all have. You act as if everything has stayed the same since the NES when many many many things have changed bro.
Is it that bad? For some sure. Will it stop me from gaming? No... Only reason I am here today so much is it's a slow day at work and I'm bored. I hate the way people are on this site. Half the time when I am reading comments I sigh and slap my forehead at how dumb people really are...
Opinion is opinion and have yours on whats better or worse. There is fact however and the fact remains that everything has changed in the industry from gamers to games to availability to competition to tech. No if's and's or but's. It will only change more as time goes on as well. hence why I am sick of kids hosting games getting 2 kills in COD and quiting. Or people lagging their Bandwidth on purpose so they can feel better about themselves... how is that fun? I find challenge and fairness fun... That is my opinion though and if someone else thinks it's lame then oh well if they host and I lag tough sh!t...
Look man in the end the industry has changed drastically and most people can see not for the better. It's cut throat and finger pointing and copy cating and generally very very lame with little to no innovation(Exception a few sony games ala flower, Eden and LBP and the PC game Spore looks good apart from that not much)... So I think the term "Jump out" is basically where the author is going...
