True, but...
They're talking about consoles proper, here. If you take away the PSP, DS, and mobile phones... being three years into a console cycle and releasing little over a dozen JRPGs (JRPGs, mind you) is kind of sparse. There are only a small amount of console RPGs that haven't been localized, as well. Agarest Senki Zero and Tears to Tiara are the ones that comes to mind, but that's really it, at least for the PS3. I'm not sure what RPGs haven't been localized on the 360 or Wii, honestly. View

@ tavaras
FFVII came on 3 discs, not 4. That was FFVIII and FFIX.

If you want to prove a point, please make sure your facts are straight! Someone might scream and cry and say you weren't actually there or something silly. View

@ Guitardr85,
The stories are all connected, however as far as I know Star Ocean: The Last Hope takes place first chronologically; thus you've no need to worry about missing out on Star Ocean 3. Heck, since most people don't like the plot of SO3, you might enjoy SO4 that much more as it wouldn't all be ruined for you. Hope that helps! View

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but...
Another reason could be that all the people playing in tournaments seem to buy it for the PS3, since that's the console being used in said tournaments. Sure, plays the same, but guys who bring their own arcade sticks to matches need a PS2/PS3 stick. It probably doesn't account for a whole LOT of sales, but it's probably something serious fighting gamers think about. View

Not sure why Grandia slipped my mind
I forgot Game Arts moved to Square Enix with Grandia 3 (a natural progression from Enix I guess), but yeah, a Grandia 4 is something I'd be excited about.

So, R. SaGa 4, Secret of Mana 4 (I don't count Legend or Dawn in the Mana canon), or Grandia 4.

Hell, it won't be Parasite Eve 4 because we haven't even seen 3 yet. View

Yep.
Odds are it'll be either a SaGa or Mana title (the last Romancing SaGa proper game was 3... and in my heart, the last proper Secret of Mana was Seiken Densetsu 3).

I'd be happy for either one. View

Wow
This was a really good review. Well-written, went into just the right amount of depth, and got me very pumped to go pick up my pre-order after work.

...Where I am obviously working very hard at, at the moment... View

The first one is good
Just don't get the PSP port of Mana Khemia... heard the slowdown is near Spectral Souls level of horrendous. That aside, it's a blast on the PS2 and should be fairly cheap by now. View

FFVII was just a catalyst
It was a decent game, but it launched JRPG's into mainstream acceptance. People often confuse it as 'the best' game when, really, it's just the 'most influential' for the genre. As mentioned, FFVI offered most of the features of FFVII with a much better villain, story, and heck, it was a much more interesting steampunk (spread throughout the world instead of one random city).

Etc. I could rant on forever. Which I will in a feature someday and it'll get a ton of FFVII-fanboy hate. Alas. View

Yeah.
I'll add my 100% agreed to that.

The PS2 is still churning out the best RPGs, years after the latest console generation has started. How crazy is that? o_O View

Hmm...
While I'm not against the thought, I don't think that style of whistle-blowing is in my blood. If this article gets enough attention, maybe someone will find it worthwhile enough to bring to IGN's attention as well.

Me doing that myself would seem a little too arrogant or antagonistic and might put a dent in our site's credibility as a whole (making us look like whiners/haters/etc); at least, I feel that way.

Oh... I think that's all of my bubbles. Hopefully I can reply to other people's comments soon! =) View

Um...
This doesn't have anything to do with Sony? I think you're misunderstanding something here... View

Ha ha ha
Nope, didn't die. Just didn't like the direction those sites were taking (seriously, they have a negative snark in every post... I can't stand that), so after a little rest, I helped Colin Torretta start up Infinite-Bits. He wrote with me at PS3/PSP for a while, too, if you recall.

I'm so excited someone remembers me! =D

*edit - feel free to add me on PSN, too! NDoerrFans is my ID. Real original, I know... View

Oh, just an addendum
I fixed some editing mistakes that were rightfully reported, but I've still left off the IGN reviewer's name because, if possible, I don't want to call him out personally. His review is more of a catalyst for a bigger issue, so I don't want it to seem like I'm attacking him. I hope that's all right to the mods =) View

Good point.
@ gump - It's really getting bad, in my opinion. It's not limited to places like IGN, as you pointed out. I suppose... I just think you shouldn't put a score to something that people will take to heart if you haven't given it enough playtime! Cuz like it or not, some people DO just look at a score number and decide not to buy a game. View

Everyone's getting so defensive!
It's his opinion. If you don't respect it, that's fine, but don't judge the quality of an entire site or a person's merit over a single opinion.

For all you know, Colin and I may have worked at www.ps3fanboy.com before starting up this site.

...Oh, wait. We did! =)

Colin's a great writer and this was supposed to be a light-hearted jab at some of the more awkward controllers we've encountered. He probably didn't cover the Jaguar's million button mess because... well... the console barely existed. He probably forgot about it.

That said, I disagree with his Sixaxis choice completely; while it was missing key features, it's still a great, ergonomic controller. I really wish he put the original Xbox controller on there - seriously, what was that giant plastic green X in the middle of the controller for, anyway? View

I only play games on Hard if the option is available from the get-go.

That said, I've no idea what other reviewers played it on; I'd assume Normal to get the most "common" feel for the game.

...I just like a challenge. And on Hard mode, this game delivers that - especially on an initial playthrough.

Thanks for the compliment on the review! View

What the...?
Someone submitted this before I could =D

And yeah, first off, 6.5 is a decent score. The game is great, but as I said in the review, it's not for the Madden-buying, Final Fantasy mainstream crowd.

It's niche; very niche. If you're into the franchises the game characters come from, you'll enjoy it. If you like a challenge, you'll enjoy it. If you like really learning a complex battle system with gauges and numbers and acronyms everywhere on screen at all times, you'll enjoy it. I love all those things. So, I enjoyed it. View

They will be.
From what I remember back in my PSPFanboy writing days, the only difference it'll truly make is the amount of time the PSP will spend reading off the UMD instead of using the 2000/3000 cache system and faster processor.

Basically, they'll work, but you'll have load times. I'd suggest investing in a big pro-duo memory stick for downloading games... or upgrade! If you're cool with load times, though, you're set. View
