R.I.P "Fun"

Gaming will never be the same again. We'll just have to admit that now. Everyone on this site will eventually say something along the lines of "let's just stop thinking about the whole "AAA" concept and review scores and play our damn games", but is it gonna happen? God no. Those days are long gone and everyday from here on will be review analysts, unreasonable fanboy logic, and endless debates that go nowhere and don't have a point. Sounds harsh and bleak, but it's reality.
Let's talk about the wii. I don't own a wii. I've considered getting one, but I don't own one. The wii and it's fan base are looked at as some sort of confusing phenomenon. It's criticized for it's noticeable inferior hardware and overwhelmingly "casual" game selection. They often revolve around mini games, party games, etc basically a carnival theme. Not much work is put into storyline, mature themes, and the hardware isn't strong enough to innovate on visuals.
Let me ask you something though. How many "casuals" are on this site everyday flaming everyday about a review for a game, available only on a system they don't even own? How many casuals do you know take pride in the fact that a company they have no stock in whatsoever, sold the most amount of units that month? What do you think casuals do all day? Go to work, go outside, talk to their girlfriend, play games, watch a movie, do their...wait wait wait. What was that? Oh yes, play games. The only thing casuals do related to games..is playing the damn games. That's what you're supposed to do remember?
Here's something blatantly obvious, that you're fully aware of, but probably haven't acknowledged at a conscious level yet: It is not a personal accomplishment for the system you own to be selling the most consoles. You bought the console, you play the games, that's it. You're not getting millions from it, it's not your doing that the consoles sold that much, and the other console you don't own selling less than it won't put you through college.
I swear if any of you tried to pull the stuff you do on the internets with someone not involved with any of this crap they'd look at you like you were retarded. Because you/we are retarded. None of this is getting us anywhere. I make this blog being fully aware, that no matter how many letters I type it's only gonna get worst. We're never gonna be able to fully enjoy games like we did when we were a kid because we're not just playing for OUR enjoyment anymore. It's not as personal as it was before, because now we're considering all of this other useless crap. Have fun. Oh wait..I think someone posted a Ninja Gaiden 2 review. Let's all LOL @ the 7's.

People are too bent on making their console of choice seem supreme.

3 - R.I.P "Fun"
R.I.P. Fun? Definitely not.
"None of this is getting us anywhere"
It really don't have to take us anywhere. All the consoles tech and games
debates are simply a heated restatement of our society in doing progress
on technology. No progress on technology, no debates.
It's also a documentation of how technology influences the public. Two
hundred years from now all the debates will give a good overview of what
was the spirit of our time. And not only two hundred years from now, if you
become an old man then you may tell all of today's exciting stuff to a
younger follower, replying to you; This must be the time. :)
It's fun all the way long.

4 - Hmmm
Well apparently you weren't a gamer in the SNES/Genesis days, or else you wouldn't have made this blog. Fanboys and pointless console debates have been around forever, its nothing new.

4.1 - no, he was around as I was
but we were children and thus entirely focused on playing said game/s. Apparently unlike you, who I'm guessing to be about 40.
Peace

4.2 - What?
Where did I say I engaged in fanboy wars? I only said that they were around back then as well, jeez quick to jump to conclusions eh pal? I'm actually 20 years old, I was a kid as well "focused on the gaming," but I clearly remember the anti Nintendo Sega fanboys and vice versa.

I was born 1990. I've been playing games since the original nes. I just wasn't involved with the console war thing. I didn't know it existed to be honest.

ha sweet blog. Yeah a shame for some isn't it? I don't think fun is done for but it does seem people are forgetting what video games are all about. Even the M rated, crazy hack and slash, blow your head off, with a political story wrapped around a few decades of sorrow are still meant to be forms of entertainment (ie fun)

Yes, gaming is losing it's fun factor, and as much as it pains me to say it, I often feel my interest in gaming dwindling. No, I don't think I'll ever stop playing videogames, but, I can only see it going downhill from here.
When it gets too bad, I'm just going to break out my old consoles, and play some retro. I often find myself revisiting old games, only to have a significantly better time playing them than I do 90% of games released within the current gen. A truly great game is timeless, and there have been painfully few "truly" great games released as of recently, standards are dropping surprisingly fast, especially on the part of games reviews. It's sad, but that's the way it is.
I'm just going to be one of those people who hopelessly dwell in the past, clinging dearly onto my bright, happy memories in a vain attempt to escape from the reality that the times I once loved are over, and are never coming back. Do I care? No.

Thirty years from now people will have the same opinion of our time
today as you have right now. It's a cycle of reincarnation. It's the same
with Music, Cars, etc.. Quite interesting, most people prefer the past
instead of his/her presence or future. Why? Because it's rather trivial to
look back. However, we are the past of the day after tomorrow!
