You aren't denting my argument at all; if anything, you are reinforcing it. The fact is, we get what we want as a whole, whether it's for the best, worst or whatever. I see the bigger picture pretty clearly, and you are completely right. People have become so complacent and numb to what is going on that it takes something major to even get them to look up, but it will take even more to get them to take action.
The thing is, we wouldn't see reporting on the candidates that we now see if we didn't respond to it. The media reflects us, and they simply show us what we ask to see. As people get lazier and more superficial as a whole, it just comes back to us. That anything being said by any candidate gets buried under the BS just shows what the public responds to most strongly, and that's the amusing sound-bite that they can remember, but don't have to think about.
I just wish people would stop and realize that when we blame the government, the corporations, the media or any outside force that we perceive to be so large and out of our control, that most of the time we are directly responsible for putting them into that position with the choices we make everyday. I know, it's asking for more action than we're likely to see; doesn't mean I can't hope that people will wake up one of these days and start taking responsibility for the world around us.
