Blu-ray Sales Up 400% in UK

he British Video Association (BVA) has revealed that 1.5 Million Blu-ray titles were sold during the month of December, representing a nearly 400% increase over the same period last year, despite the tough economic environment. The top Blu-ray seller, not surprisingly, was Warner's 'The Dark Knight' which sold 281,000 units during the month.

I wonder what the sales figures for HDDVD and Digital Distribution are?

I can just imagine those Digital Downloads stuffed under a Christmas Tree somewhere during Christmas.

Tell that to all the sensationalized bloggers and media sites who seemingly want to continue to propagate the "Blu-Ray is dying; Digital Distribution and DVD are the future" articles that constantly pop up around here.

You will continue to see these articles until DVD is no longer for sale and the Digital Download Coalition and HD-DVD revolutionists stop publicizing FUD about BD. Yeah, BD is the winning format but there are a plethora of idiots that would try and say otherwise, even after a year of great sales like 2008 was for BD.

article says 400% increase same period last year.
Somebody on Open zone jealously says, everything went up 400% 'coz dec 25th is holiday
as there was no dec 25th last year.

that was good laugh.

10 - So I'm thinking...
Lots and lots of articles about how BD's dead/dying in North and South America.

Canada wont count...

On a serious note, love to know how DD is going between the PS3 and 360, especially since MS is often quick to report about it.

11 - well done blu ray
well as i am going to say bluray is here to stay now and ps3 is the true next generation and is here to stay i cant really comment much about 360 i thought it died and rip with those horrible rrod and scratching dvds9 i guess 360 isnt high def like the ps3 and the dvd are pretty much died rip dvds and microsoft dont have a chance now as sony owns rights to blu ray and microsoft arent got much happeing in xbox 720 plus ps3 will start cleaning up the competition this year leaving 360 in last third place world wide once that price comes and the launching of killzone 2 on the horizon is going to be pretty big

12 - Good to see
Good to see, i like Blu-ray movies, particularly since i have a pretty decent entertainment set-up to take advantage of what Blu-ray brings.

The only people who would genuinly want download as the future of movies are th lazy ones in my opinion. For me, there is nothing better than going out to a store like HMV and picking up a couple of movies and actually owning them. Much rather have a physical copy of a movie than a digital one anyday

13 - DD & BR
Now imagine this...
PS3 is more suited to DD than the XB360. Simply because you can add a bigger drive etc. So the PS3 would be leading the XB360 in DD, with MS trumpeting how DD is going to win... meaning... PS3 will have the biggest market share there as well... ouch!!!!

Still... There is no substitute for space when it comes to HD content. You can not compress the hell out of it and think no-one is going to notice the color banding and artifacts...

not surprised tbh. nearly every big film is being released on blu-ray as well as dvd and there not much more expensive now. i think more people are deciding to spend the extra few ££'s and see what the fuss is. i could have got the dark knight for £13 on dvd but decided to spend an extra £3 and get the blu-ray version (first blu-ray purchase) - think alot of ppl are doing the same now. they just need 2 get the price down to the same as dvd and i think most ppl will opt for blu-ray
