I was skeptical about this whole NXE thing because I was pretty satisfied with the dashboard but after downloading it and playing with it a little bit its so much better than the dashboard! The avatars are pretty gay though but everything else is a big improvement from the dashboard. Its a lot better looking and more organized. Updates like this makes me feel better about paying $50 a year for XBL! Great job M$!

It's ok... Nothing very interesting in it though. The most interesting aspect of it, Netflix, is nowhere to be found in Europe so this update basically boils down to a skin change for a user like me who doesn't care about the community part of Live. I really like the fact that its more responsive though.

PS: I hate my avatar, and all avatars.

Who cares? Its sony's loss. Netflix isnt going to let Sony try and screw Netflix's customers for long. This is Sony shooting itself in the foot -- and, is probably going to attract the anti-competitive / monopoly regulators and DOJ. There are laws against this kind of anti-competitive behaviour.

What are you talking about? 3D avatars that look like PEOPLE arent new or unique to Nintendo. Secondly, Avatars are vastly more customizeable and varied than Miis. You clearly havent created an Avatar.

The bottom line: NXE is another EPIC victory for MS. I've already used PhotoParty with some of my family, they loved it.

Very slick and very responsive. There is a lot of backtracking in the menus however. Other than that, the avatars still suck (even after creating one), but it is a fast process. Good job MS! Still a little too Nintendo-ish and not as sophisticated as the XMB, but an awesome improvement over the blades. There are ads everywhere though.

Huh? There's a lot more "going on" in NXE than XMB, more animation, better organization, navigation and features.

NXE is vastly superior to the UI on Wii or PS3. Not to mention the *featuers* -- which really put NXE way out front.

What is so "crap" about the Avatars?

They are 3D people -- no more, no less. They are a superior implementation than currently in the market. And they will be used to "embody" the player in games (like Kingdom for Keflings (which, is pretty good actually)).

They are excellent in fact. Good move by MS. They are more customizeable, more refined and more varied than previous implementations. And, in the future, you know that they will become varied based on Achievements and Medals.

I'm kinda p*ssed that all of the themes I have are pretty much useless. I mean, I can see one of the pictures out of four that come with every theme, but what happened to the other pictures?

Also, for as sleek as it all looks, why does what the guide button bring up look so dull and boring?

I'm not sure why, but Fable 2 seems to run faster than any other DVD. It makes more noise than any game I've played. Thank God for installs!

10 - Holy Shiznet! The NXE Kicks Ass!
I just downloaded the NXE. I'm telling you... it's sick as f*ck.

I expected this new update to be lame as hell. Avatars, right? Wack huh. But I tried them out, made my own little badass, and what do ya know, it's not so bad after all. The intro video after downloading blew me away. I felt like it was the N64 days all over again. Well, more so I felt like I was on mushrooms.

Originality is what best describes this update. It's smooth, efficiant, and totally appealing. I hope Sony's Home does good, I really do. I'm not going to be all Xbox-this, Xbox-that anymore. If Home does as good as the NXE, all hardcore gamers will have something be happy about.

The naysayers will say the nay but I'll still know what's real. The NXE prevailed, and I hope PS3 fans are left with something kickass in Home as well.

Nope, seems to be fine. Haven't heard any problems anyway.

Anyway, quick review, I feel the same indifference I did to it before the update though. It's just an interface change, some for the better, some for the worse. I personally think the blades were better. To be honest though, none of the added features even benefit me, party modes and Netflix are pretty much useless for me. I basically got a redesigned dashboard which I'm indifferent to and avatars which I think are lame as all hell.

As for avatars, the customisation choices are kind of limited, so my Avatar just looks like some yuppie, which is really not what I was going for.

Just my opinion..

Liking the update. Took no time at all. Menus are crisp and bright with lots of artwork everywhere. It looks a lot more pro overall. The pop up blade section is a bit dull and could have been made a bit sharper - otherwise so far so good. Nice one MS. I agree with comments above about the lots of back tracking in menus which can get many levels deep. Is there a one button return to root menu?

Can't be bothered to install a game yet as I have 2 machines and the disc loading or noise has never been and issue with a decent 5.1 setup.

I have to say that the 'avatar program' which is obviously a little seperate application is soooooooooo cheesy with its kiddy music and really is tring to be the Wii I have downstairs. (I bet the missus will like it though). Not really suiting my seasoned gamer attitude, Having said that I look forward to seeing some comedy avatars in the near future like on the Wii. I want mine to look like captain kirk in his mutton chop burner phase.

So my first impressions are a thumbs up (apart from the cheesy thing).
