TR: Intel Core i7 Performance Analysis

With Core i7, Intel has stretched its lead in the CPU performance race without increasing power consumption and that's really all we could ask for. Admittedly the performance advantage isn't quite as significant as we may have expected and, with prices set to be high for the next few months, we wouldn't recommend Core i7 as the next upgrade for everyone. However, if you're in the market for a brand new system there seems little reason to choose anything but a Core i7 platform.

Can't wait until these go down in price. I really want to upgrade to a new computer and this will be gravy.

2 - I'll be sticking with my Core Duo E8400 for now
I have it upped to 3.25 GHz, and it's plenty fast for my needs ATM. Once those processors come down to the 200 - 250 range, I'll pick one up.

2.1 - My upgrades can wait too...
My QX6700 is up to 3.2 GHz, its really overkill. I'll get another good 3-4 years out of this box (Vista Ultimate 64-bit/Ubuntu 64-bit, 8GB RAM, 750 GB HDD, 8600 GT).

What has happend to AMD ? i remember back in the day when building a gaming PC youd normaly got for an AMD and they WERE the fastest about, remeber my dad building a new PC (doenst do it anymore) and putting an AMD in it and i had an AMD FX 60 in my older build and at the time it was the fastest there was but iv read that AMD might be brining back the AMD FX series so must mean they have an ace up their sleeve to take down intel hope AMD hits hard in the CPU market but they are doing really well with the GPUs :D

Im a big fan of AMD CPU's but they are after falling behind with their CPU's in the past few years. I am hoping they come back with avengance with a new CPU core soon. Ive been using an Intel Q6600 for the past 2 months and I dont intend to change to AMD until they come on par if not better to Intel.
