Sony adds YouTube upload support to PS3 SDK

Sony Computer Entertainment has added support for the YouTube API to the PS3 SDK.

According to Japanese website ITmedia, the experiment is being supported globally and is designed to let developers easily integrate YouTube uploading into games made for the system, helping developers onto Sony's user-generated content bandwagon.

The functionality, which is being debuted in the free Mainichi Issho daily news and entertainment service, will allow uploads of user-created movies to YouTube directly within the game - making the PS3 the first games console to have official support for YouTube, according to Sony.

It means you can upload Youtube videos directly from a PS3 game. Imagine having a great multiplayer game with your friends and being able to save the replay directly to Youtube, instead of having to set up a recording system, save it to a file, edit it, and put it online.

2.4 - @2.1- Not all games will have this
Its up to the dev whether to include it in a game or not. Neat feature nonetheless.

It's called user generated content made easy and accessible. Use your eyecam to capture some video or possibly upload gameplay straight from your ps3 to youtube.

Doesn't the accomplishments have something similar to this? If you finish one a accomplishment, you can actually see a replay video on when and how you did it. (So I heard)

But this takes it to a whole other level...

I always thought the video capture in Halo 3 was a great idea and should be spread to more games.

This opens up the much bigger possibility's, you can now share your noob-ness with the world much easier.

This goes above and beyond in-game replays, and has huge, positive consequences. Rather than having to own the game, or even own the system, replays of amazing moments can just be viewed by anyone online? And I bet the quality will be pretty damn good, at least by youtube standards.

Actually, this is a pretty basic idea, now that I think about it. I’m amazed no one else has implemented something like this yet…

28 - You go sony...I still love you!
Even though my PS3 had to be replaced...your awesome customer service handled it real well...and it was all free and painless.

hopefully next week I will get my new PS3...and be back to playing the new games...especially GTA4 and MGS4 next month.

Its good to be a PS3 owner!

PS3 to Youtube?

Dang that is awesome!

You go Sony!

wow........this came out nowhere. a great idea that can be easily integrated into many games especially games like lbp (this could explain the extra month delay) that have strong focus on community. i can also see this being used for home except the vice-versa instead of streaming videos in you apartment from your ps3 you may also be able to stream it off of youtube or link videos from youtube to your apartment.

sony + youtube.....b3yond expectations!

I love the Halo 3 saved films feature but this is looking sick, wish you could upload videos to youtube from your Xbox 360.
