I am just saying, Blu-Ray is no incentive in my book even though I own an HDTV and a Surround system. And no game so far has shown me I need to spend an additional $500 on another system that is essentially the same as my 360. I am just saying if this game is running smooth and fast like it is being chased by the cops, Then I want to see it and if it stomps the later 360 version. Then kudos, I just don't need $1,000 of gaming systems doing the same damn thing.

in Graphics The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. Part of the reason is their choice of memory, and architecture of pixel and vertex procesing. I can't get into details but the same vertex shader will run much slower on the PS3 than the XBOX 360. The 360 also has a clever new way rendering high definition anti aliased back buffers. To accomplish the same effect on PS3 is prohibitively expensive. For this reason I think many games will have no choice but to run in non-HD resolutions on the PS3 version, use a lower quality anti aliasing technique, or do back buffer upscaling. The end result in all cases is going to be noticeably worse image quality.

NOTE: he doesn't say anything about it but next year the 360 will get UNREAL TOURNAMENT and you know it will play better when they have a chance to work on it and tweak it a little bit, PS3 JUST KEEPS PULLING MEANINGLESS thing out of there @SSES to make poeple buy PS3's in my opinion CHILDISH and PATHETIC

i heard, and i dont remember where, that the ps3 is significantly underpowered compared to what they were originally designing it to be.
the story is that IBM and sony were tryin to get the cell processor to do it all, that is as GPU and CPU therefore cutting cost and power consumption while having insane power. apparently they failed and got Nvidia to bail them out and derived the current GPU off of high end Nvidia chips

Guy's the power of the Ps3 has already been proven at E3. Ps3 had the best looking games of all the consoles. Compared to even Lair, the Graphics of every other game on the Xbox 360 looks like something i drew in 1st grade.

And let me not even get started on Heavenly Sword, Gran Turismo, Drakes Fortune, Motorstorm, ***"Metal Gear Solid 4"*** and etc. etc, and etc. All these games compared to what 360 has out in 2 years except Gears is really just phenomenal. And even more amazing is that the ps3 has only been out since last November--Less than a year? and it took a Year to Achieve Gears of War but it takes less than a year to achieve Unreal Tournament on the Ps3, which is much better than Gears.

Wow, the Ps3 is a monster and all Devs, biased and unbiased, will realize that is really capable of ushering the new generation of HD gaming.

You can talk about ports all you want, but How many games from the 360 can even compare to all the games of the ps3 that aren't ports? Halo 3? Nothing but Hype. Killzone 2, nothing but the future.

I have a PS3 & a 360, they are both great consoles. The *potential* for the PS3 is there, no doubt. But unlike you, I'm alittle less biased & reserve my final opinion 4 when these games are RELEASED & I PLAY THEM. However, so far, I have *yet* to see a AAA PS3 game that is BETTER than a AAA 360 game, graphically or otherwise. By the way, my PS3 is so powerful that I find myself playing my 360 much more because I have a library of great games I can play NOW & MORE keep coming every month. *Achievement Unlocked*

There is a full spread in the last issue of OXM how Epic says it's going to have Gears+ graphics. They've been working on the 360 for the past 3 years with Gears and the Unreal engine has been optimised greatly for the Xbox 360.

@55 - Hopefully you see this. But you are incorrect. First off, even Epic said they did not push the 360 to it's limits. Second, they were talking about the engine performing better at this point in time than it did last year when they were doing Gears. What you fail to realize is that they are not saying the PS3 version is better in any way as much as the engine is running better. When the 360 version is released it will have better graphics than Gears according to Epic. Which also in turns relate back to that they did not tap all the 360 potential. I believe there is a ton of potential in the 360, it takes time to harness that power just like in previous consoles. Did you even watch the video?

This has been a bad week for old MS! Lackluster E3 PS3 showing its power over the 360, $1billion warranty losses. Some call this the "Halo Effect" with no other games wanting to compete with it. Whatever helps you sleep at night, but the fact is that Halo 3 is the only killer app the 360 has coming in it's near future that is exclusive and it has been out for 2 years this fall. In the old days when PS2 had GTA exclusive that was the biggest game ever and it didn't stop others from releasing good games at the same time and it is stupid for the xbox fans to really think Halo will appease them through and after the holiday season the fact is it WILL get boring and their will be better games coming out when the "halo effect" effectively stops them from coming to your console.

This is microsofts fault. They did all that talking about user generated content prior to the ps3 launching and now they say there will be no user generated content at all. It seem like sony was the one who should have been talking up user generated content because they have Home, Little Big Planet, and now UT3 with mods. User generated content isnt a deal breaker for me but when games are made exclusive to other platforms because of it I'm pissed. Yep, it was stated on gametrailers.com during the bonus round that the reason UT3 is exclusive this year to ps3 and pc is because of mods not being available on 360.

On a lighter note however, I find it funny how people are really talking up this whole UT3 running better on ps3 than Gears was on 360. My question is, what will all you sony fanboys say when UT3 is released next year on 360 looking and playing better ala oblivion.

With the PS3 you obviously get it sooner and get user-created maps - which is huge.

With the 360 you get guaranteed good FPS control(PS3 version may be good too, but 360 is proven), and LIVE community - which is known for FPS competition - this game will have a LONG life on LIVE - as long as Halo 3 I'd imagine.

And, Epic may do something special with the 360 version since they have extra time - like how the PC version of Gears is getting more maps and two extra single player levels.

Graphics-wise - who knows. Epic puts out their A game for everyone, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Its gonna look great no matter what. One potential concern is frame-per-second since some games have been faster on the 360 - haven't heard anything about this game in that regard for either console.

in Graphics The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. I read GameInformer before Gears of War came out. Cliffy B mentions that when Sony and Ms sent there dev kits they were both 256DDR. He made gears on 256DDR and 512DDR showed it to Microsoft because they had it exclusive. He mention that at 256DDR the game lacked polish and was slow. He told MS that to get the best out of his game they should go with the 512DDR, which MS did and the rest is history. but it is possible to make the game for the PS3. I also believe it is possible to make Killzone 2 for the 360. So far most titles released on both systems look better on the Xbox360. and you know what else i like when Sony gets the game first..developers look at there mistakes and then make it better for the Xbox360(virtual fighter5)...UT3 and MGS4 are also gonna look and play better on the 360...and i don't want to hear that MGS4 aint coming to the xbox360..it only makes sense for Konami..

Why would they do a simultanious release for Unreal Tournament when the 360 is just a couple of months away from the release of Halo 3?

It only makes sense to push Unreal Tournament until the following year after "some" of the Halo 3 hype has died down a little. Do you actually think 360 "shooter" fans are going to play Unreal when Halo 3 is just hitting store shelves?

While on the other hand, Killzone 2 isn't hitting until 2008 so the only substantial shooter it will have to compete with is Resistance, which is a year old. Some of you may say that Haze could compete but Haze is a new franchise and no one knows how this game is going to turn out. The one thing we do know is that Resistance is a quality shooter and the only shooter to beat on the PS3 at the moment. We also know that Unreal is a quality franchise as well.

And I would hope that with an entire extra year of development and understanding of the PS3, that Epics next game would indeed run better than a game whose development ended a year ago.

Spin any way you want, but this is good news for PS3 fans due to the fact that they are recieving a proven franchise in the shooter genre. Not to mention that the game looks great as well!

Its also good news for 360 fans. The 360 version will probably receieve a little extra development time. Also, pushing this game after the release of Halo 3, will help build a larger online community for this game.

Yea, it's called the Halo effect. And it moves everything off of the 360. It creates the kind of market that allows Halo 3 to thrive. It dominates, therefor no other games dare cross it, therefor it's the only option on the 360, therefor it dominates, therefor... You can easily see how success feeds success. Success creates hype. Hype creates success. It's self-feeding. However, it's also good for the competition, because it gives them exclusives or timed exclusives

Can someone explain to me how UT3 and Haze suffer from the Halo effect when Infinity Ward is letting that stop them from bringing out Call of Duty 4 on the 360? Sounds more like an excuse then logical reasoning.

Man 360 has taken a nose-dive into it an early grave looking at all the bad news for it... Anyway im getting UT3 on PS3 - can't wait!

UT3 is still being developed. Gears came out last year. Of course graphics are going to improve for every console a year down the road.

I will probably get this for PS3.

Mark is such a tool. But yeah it's smart to have UT3 come out later for the 360 just because Halo 3 sales would kill sales for UT3 on the 360. I'm just a little ticked that there has been no mention for user generated content for the 360. XBL would do just as well as PSN with giving out user created content.

Other than that I don't care if the PS3 version looks better than the 360 version. The PS3's Cell is finally being used for the greater good.

Wow, come up with your own ideas, not some website who tries to discredit the PS3's power by bithcing at the difficulty to program it. And I forget, but somewhere I read that the Cell and the RSX can work together to create more Pixel Pipelines?

MODS: hope they can find a way to create mods on ps3 by nov. but if they don't do i have to get the pc ver. to get them or can i just find and DL over net??

CROSS PLAT PLAYING: if they do then u should get a option in lobbies (PS3/PC or PS3) because consoles would get owned buy pc the turn around is too fast and aiming is precise. But im up for the challenge.

SIX AXIS: thats just cool.

TIMED EXCLUSIVE: don't think the 360 is gonna get any extra content because of DVD9. Its holding 360 back. Doubt theres gonna be any extra levels/weapons on the disk but maybe on the marketplace and if so then it should be on the PSN. Mods are still up in the air with 360 but doesnt look like there going there.

This game looks awesome and Nov. is a good release time (it will prob be a x-mas present to myself).
