I know some folks are into the whole sci-fi overlay-story in Assassin’s Creed, but to me those sections always took me out of the gameplay I wanted to play and the stories I was interested in. I never cared for/about all the Desmond stuff. It just felt completely unnecessary and ‘gimmicky’ to me, and detracted from the overall experience of playing an Assassin’s Creed game.

I also feel that it never lived up to the potential. I was never a fan of the sci-fi overlay stuff and felt it was ‘gimmicky’, but they (Ubi) made a choice to go in that direction, but then didn’t actually commit to it, in that those locations were cheap, easy and uninspired (wow, we’re inside a modern building), and the gameplay was just absolutely nothing to enjoy. IF you’re gonna go that route of doing a sci-fi overlay story, and again, I’m saying you shouldn’t because it’s not needed, then at least make sure it’s impressive and ADDS something to the experience, instead of taking away from it. Imagine modern-day (slight future) recreations of the old places you visit, or something like the modern city in the first Mirror’s Edge (EA), including that kind of gameplay.

If it needs an explanation I'm not interested.

PlayStation home basically for a franchise.

They always do these things for a reason. Most likely they want the hub to be a place to easier show others AC titles, DLC and microtransactions for consumers to buy. Or games will be sold in chapters switching between titles. Something to make more money out of the situation.

Seems like an AC games hub, like what they did with Hitman. I'm not against it, but it does make it easier for them to advertise their DLC and new AC games to players if they have to go to a hub each time they boot up an AC game.

The good thing about this is that they’re stripping the modern storyline from the games and putting it in the Hub.

Nothing more jarring than suddenly being taken to the modern setting after a huge action setpeice especially in black flag where it was in first person
