Final Fantasy 16 Patch 1.31 Brings Big Damage Buffs for Clive, Better Side Quests, and Much More

Square Enix has published the patch notes for Final Fantasy 16's next update, which is set to drop on the 18th April alongside The Rising Tide DLC. They're surprisingly lengthy, and cover a lot of stuff that was never actually mentioned by the developer upon the update's announcement last month.

Whoa! That is a lot. I think it’s time for me to replay in Final Fantasy mode

raWfodog12d ago

This perfectly exemplifies why I choose to wait quite a while to buy ‘new’ games. This meaty patch basically makes the game an improved experience overall from what it originally was. My first impression and experiences of the game will arguably be ‘better’ than it would have been otherwise.

solideagle12d ago

I am pretty sure this is for DLC, as they want to it to be hard...

raWfodog11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

It might have been spurred on by the DLC, but thankfully these changes apply to the whole game. Similar to how Cyberpunk got major game mechanic improvements ahead of that DLC drop.

AKS12d ago

Have there been any improvements to the performance mode in recent updates? The game seemed great, but I wasn't pleased with the way it looked in performance mode. I'm hoping there is a major Pro update.

Looking to grab this in the future...not yet though..too much to play

EternalTitan12d ago

No minigames?
No playable party members?
No fixing the boring environments?
No actual rpg mechanics?
This turd polish 'patch' is just a scam now.

MrNinosan12d ago

Sounds like you're describing other amazing games, like Elden Ring.

mrcatastropheAF11d ago

whoa buddy, love both games but Elden Ring is a masterpiece.

No minigames? -->how would this apply to Elden Ring, when have minigames ever been a thing in the Souls franchise

No playable party members -->The variety of playstyle in Elden Ring more than solves for this

Boring environments -->Have you played Elden Ring?

No actual RPG mechanics --> LOL

MrNinosan11d ago

@mrcatastropheAF
I love both Elden Ring and FFXVI.
My point was that the all his 'bullet points' for being a bad game was stupid.

Regarding the points:
No minigames?
- Not even half of the FF-games have minigames, most rpgs doesn't, so why would no minigames mean a bad game?

- No playable partymember?
There is none in Elden Ring, nor in FFXVI.
There are different combat styles in both, yes.

- No fixing the boring environments?
Elden Ring, even thou not graphically a masterpiece, looks amazing, and so does FFXVI with higher fidelity. His opinion of bad environments is not shared by many.

- No actual rpg mechanics?
I agree there is less in FFXVI than in many other games, but the rpg genre has moved, many times over.
And regarding Elden Ring, what would you say adds to the rpg mechanics that is missing from FFXVI?

andy8511d ago

Not even half have minigames? Wouldn't say that at all. Only one that I can think of from 16 of them is 16 itself. 5 possibly didn't as well.

MrNinosan11d ago

@andy85
Minigames was first introduced in FFVII.
From I-VI no mini games was included in the first releases.

VII, VIII, IX and X had typical minigames.
XII had a crappy fishing
XIII had nothing if you don't count Dreadnought, which is less mini-game than controlling Ifrit in FFXVI.
XV had 2, fishing and Justice Monsters Five, at release.

andy8510d ago

Hm that's not really true. FF1 had the secret puzzle minigame on the OG version. You're right that the other games didn't, but later releases of the other ones had them added in once it became more of a series staple. So those games still ended up having them. I forgot about XIII. That's probably the only 'recent' one lacking in them.

Yeah 16 was good but a little too different for a FF game for me.

Seraphim11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

when you fail to see games for their own merits, strengths and weaknesses. I thought XVI was an excellent game in it's own right. Shit remove Final Fantasy from the title and it stands on it's own, but that is part of the problem right. Final Fantasy has been around so long people have expectations of what they feel/think is or isn't FF. Sure there are some aspects that could've been improved/better, but overall XVI was an epic experience & dam solid video game.

16 isnt even a final fantasy game.
And its a terrible game on its own.

Gotta love those free user experience "scams."

I don't know about ''great'' rpg.

Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes

Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite

Alos885d ago

I'd give it the great part, it's the RPG part I find dubious.

EternalTitan5d ago

There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

What do you mean there’s no role playing? Also, I’m fairly certain I made builds with Eikon abilities and I’ve gone to the blacksmiths to literally select craft weapons and gear. 🤷‍♂️

EternalTitan2d ago

How many 'builds' can you make?
Weapons and gear only increase numbers. Tell me about elemental weaknesses and status.

CrimsonWing692d ago (Edited 2d ago )

@EternalTitan

Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element.

What statuses are you asking about? F*cking status buffs and debuffs? You talking about stats that increase with gear crafting? Because all that’s present in the game.

The fact that you even admit there’s builds and RPG elements contradicts your claim. No matter how limited they may be, they exist in the game, therefore it is an RPG. I think the correct critique is instead of claiming it’s “not an RPG” you really mean to say it’s an RPG not as in-depth as it’s contemporaries. Regardless, it’s an RPG nonetheless even without “elemental weakness” playing in combat.

EternalTitan1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

@CrimsonWing69
"Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element"
Why not?
Where is your source for this?

CrimsonWing6918h ago

@EternalTitan

So you’re telling me if a game has all the elements and mechanics of an RPG except elemental weakness exploits in combat that they’re not an RPG?

C’mon man, how about you show me where it says an RPG must have elemental weakness mechanics?

Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.

That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!

However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.

VersusDMC5d ago

The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.

repsahj5d ago

The Base game is already great for me IMHO and the 2 DLC will even make it better.
