As we march into the next decade, games are getting prettier and the demand for better graphics are becoming stronger. PS3 exclusives fail to make top 20 in UK

This christmas in the UK Modern Warfare 2 holds number one spot after having record-breaking first week sales, crowning it UK's Christmas number 1 game.

Despite the games industry's praise of the PS3's 2009 exclusives, not one managed to reach the top 20 for the week of December 19th, proving to be a huge disappointment.

PS3 sells more than one million consoles for the week, the highest the console has achieved in its lifetime. Total PS3 sales have reached 30 million units.

Next Generation 2012.. Sony to change processor design

There have been many calls recently on the timing of the next generation of consoles for all systems. Gamers have had good reason to expect a new generation as the standard timeline for a console lifespan has already exceeded itself going into 2010 for the Xbox360, with the PS3 and Wii lagging behind by just a few months. This week Japanese technology insider Hiroshige Goto reiterated a claim that "next generation timeframe is around 2012 (2011 being difficult and possibly as late as 2013) with the Wii HD being seen as the exception." The newest generation of portable devices will be the next generation of gaming to come before the next generation of consoles.
Goto also says "Sony was looking into using an updated SPU design in the core of the PS4, and recently has heard of other plans.....

Does Anyone Care About Backwards Compatibility?

The Xbox 360 made waves back in 2005 when it was revealed that only select games from the original Xbox library would be backwards compatible on the system. A year later, the PS3 launched with a graphics synthesizer chip installed specifically for full-on PS2 software compatibility. Said chip also contributed to the exorbitant $600 price tag of the console. Meanwhile, the Wii was fully backwards compatible with all GameCube games. Fast forward to the present, and Microsoft is – more or less – done with adding titles to the forward-compatibility list (old games you play on a new system are forward compatible, whereas systems that play old games are backwards compatible), while Sony actually took a step in the opposite direction, losing back compat. Have they dropped support for the feature simply because it's not worth the effort? More important, does anyone care about backwards compatibility?
