However having been the bastion of them for as long as I can remember they probably are still the deciding factor when it comes to what people go out and buy.

Nonetheless the folks over at Kotaku have conducted research into the best games of each year from the past decade purely based on review scores from well known aggregate review sites GameRankings and Metacritic. Unfortunately, it looks like Nintendo decided that all this free publicity for their series was a bad thing, and ordered the film removed from the internet.

A fan film is basically no different from fan fiction, or fan art - just a way of paying homage to the Zelda series through the medium of an internet video. What reason would Nintendo have to close it down? Will they next shut down other Zelda fan works such as Zelda Reorchestrated?

The Decade of Zelda

Zelda has been around since the mid 80's, yet no previous decade has come close to giving us what this decade has. There have been 9 Zelda game releases in the last 10 years. To put that in perspective, there are only 5 Zelda titles that were not released in this decade. So for all our complaining, for all our slow "no news" times, and for all this whining about why we don't have Zelda Wii yet, it's good to remember that Nintendo has been giving us Zelda love all decade, so be patient young grasshopper and you will greatly rewarded. Still, lets' take a walk down memory lane as we go through all the Zelda releases this decade.

The Most Uplifting Super Mario Bros. Trailer

Dan Abramson of the Huffington Post writes: "The internet is filled with videos re-imagining 'Super Mario Bros.,' but this one seriously struck a chord. I think I may have cried while watching this. Yes, that's right. A video that dramatically cuts together clips of Mario was so inspirational that it reduced me to tears. Hell, Mario wasn't just plucking on my heart strings here, he was strumming away."

Top 10 most visually impressive games of the decade (2000-2009)

VGArabia: You need more than amazing graphics in order to make a great game. But at the same time, no one can deny the fact that great visuals do make a good game even better. As we march into the next decade, games are getting prettier and the demand for better graphics are becoming stronger. I have constructed a list of the best looking games of the decade with choosing one game for each year.

Does Anyone Care About Backwards Compatibility?

The Xbox 360 made waves back in 2005 when it was revealed that only select games from the original Xbox library would be backwards compatible on the system. A year later, the PS3 launched with a graphics synthesizer chip installed specifically for full-on PS2 software compatibility. Said chip also contributed to the exorbitant $600 price tag of the console. Meanwhile, the Wii was fully backwards compatible with all GameCube games. Fast forward to the present, and Microsoft is – more or less – done with adding titles to the forward-compatibility list (old games you play on a new system are forward compatible, whereas systems that play old games are backwards compatible), while Sony actually took a step in the opposite direction, losing back compat. Have they dropped support for the feature simply because it's not worth the effort? More important, does anyone care about backwards compatibility?

David Jaffe says he would change God of War to mix in Zelda 64 elements

David Jaffe has reflected on the God of War series and explained that if he were to create God of War now, he would like to mix elements of God of War and the Zelda titles from the N64.

Best 30 Games of the Decade

As 2009 winds down, the aughties, double zeros, or whatever you like to refer this decade as, heads towards its end as well. Its incredible to think that it has been a whole ten years since Y2K, but it has. The 2000s will be remembered in the gaming industry as the decade where gaming went mainstream. No longer is gaming a fad or a niche. Instead, video gaming has become a culture, and a part of everyday entertainment. The DAMNLAG Team has decided to take you down memory lane, and rank the best thirty gaming experience to come from this great gaming decade. Commentary and rankings were all done by Jaleel Boone, Chris Holmes, Connor Beaton, Zack Rovinsky, and myself. Enjoy guys, we worked pretty hard on this one. We promise you it will be epic.

Kotaku- BioWare On The Decline Of The JRPG

Kotaku- Final Fantasy aside, Japanese role-playing games simply don't command the respect (or sales) they once did in the West. You may have an opinion on this! That's great. So do BioWare.

With Mass Effect and Dragon Age both leading the way as far as Western RPGs are concerned, they're a company well-placed to know what's good, and what's not so good, about the Japanese entries in the field.

GamesRelay - Has CAPCOM's Resident Evil series lost its way?

It was back in 1996 when the first Resident Evil game graced our presence, sure there had been horror games before it, but none quite struck a cord like the original Resident Evil did.

Top 25 Games of the Decade: #8 - Metroid Prime

"Taking the leap from 2D to 3D, Metroid Prime was a success in every department. The gameplay design was nearly perfect, it was well balanced, the controls were excellent, and it was challenging from beginning to end.

Metroid Prime is much more than a standard first-person shooter; it's a title about exploration and discovery. The Morph Ball mode touched on these aspects as the Metroid series has always been much more than any average action title – they are landmark titles that pushed their genres forward, which Prime clearly does."

TheSpeedGamers to Capture All 493 Pokémon for Charity

Destructoid: "Remember when Pokémon games were limited to just 151 little critters to collect? God, those were the days. I can't comprehend trying to acquire every Pokémon they've come up with since that time.

The gang at TheSpeedGamers are made of tougher stuff than I am, apparently. They've decided that they're going to attempt to collect all 493 Pokémon. And they're going to do it in a 72-hour period, live on the internet, as a charity drive for an Oklahoma-based children's cancer charity, Ally's House.

No outside trading, just pure capturing skill involved. Of course, some of the Pokémanz were only available at live events, so special exceptions have been made for these creatures which will be pre-loaded on one of the cartridges they'll be using.

Best of luck to TheSpeedGamers! You'll be able to check out their live stream of the event and donate to the cause beginning tomorrow."

Top 25 Games of the Decade - #10 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

"Running across walls and performing acrobatic flips to new heights was the reason why gamers were instantly hooked. As if the cancellations of both Perfect Dark 2 and Kameo 2 in favor of Project Natal have shaken the faith of even the most loyal Rare fans, David Wise's departure from Rare could very well be the killing blow. [...]

From his Facebook: "I think the business of Rare has changed a great deal, and at the moment there is just not the opportunity to create the soundtracks that Rare were fortunately very famous for."

Unfortunately, though, this is only the most recent loss of a distinguished employee within the British developer in the recent months.

Back in August, Steve Burke, another prominent Rare musician from Kameo fame, also left the company to take a year's sabbatical "to go travelling," according to some Rare sources; no word if the real reason could be or not related with his well known desires to work for the film industry. Burke and Wise's departures only follow the trade open by Grant Kirkhope a year ago.

Out of the musical department, there has recently been huge losses, with Microsoft's recent restructuring process affecting several engineers and artists, including Steve Malpass, designer for Banjo-Tooie, Perfect Dark, Ghoulies and Nuts & Bolts. Moreover, some programmers have also left, like veteran Mark Edmonds, one of the remaining members of the original GoldenEye 007 team, who abandoned Rare in late 2008 after 14 years of work at Twycross."
