Halo 3 delivers in the multiplayer, the plot elements in campaign are just a bit weak.
Bungie has insisted ever since Halo 3’s inception that this game was finally going to be everything that they wanted a Halo game to be. No more rushed to market excuses as to why corners were cut. Halo 3 was to be an homage to fans of the series and surpass Halo 2 in every aspect. From graphics, online multiplayer, and map editing tools Halo 3 was supposed to be the ultimate Halo experience. Bungie has delivered on most fronts in my opinion except for some weak story line in certain areas.

Halo has always based a large portion of the game play on multiplayer. And in this aspect Halo 3 has surpassed even my early expectations. The new online co-op as well as the Forge editing tools really bring the Halo community to life over Xbox LIVE. There is something really satisfying about being able to save and freeze frame your opponents death. Rinsing and repeating this brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘powned’.

The only weak area in my opinion is the plot line in Halo 3. It seems that once again Bungie focused most of their effort on Halo’s multiplayer aspects. The game can be completed in roughly 8-10 hours in my experience at least. The story itself seems like something out of a page of The Matrix rather than Halo. Not to mention that towards the end of the game, the story seems to have many ideas and environments ‘borrowed’ from Halo 2. Don’t worry, no spoilers here for anybody who hasn’t played the game.

If there's a saving grace in Halo 3, though, it's the multiplayer modes, and this element alone takes much of the sting out of the other shortcomings. The multiplayer aspects of Halo 3 begin and end with the 'standard' Halo options. Everything you remember from Halo 1 and 2, from the play lists and matchmaking to the party system, is intact, and that will frankly be enough for many gamers right there.

The AI is improved over previous Halo games also. Enemies will use more team based elements to attack you. The graphics themselves are beautiful in my opinion. They are not ultra-realistic, but they are very vibrant and colorful. The lighting effects are also some of the best I have seen. There is a subtle beauty to the game. The music and sound effects are also top notch. One thing I have always liked about the Halo series is the musical score. Once again Bungie has not disappointed me.

Overall Halo 3 is for the most part what Bungie promised it to be. The party system and the online components are some of the best to be found in gaming. The weapons and maps all seem to be well balanced. Finally a Halo game where 'the needler' is actually useful. The new weapons as well as the equipment all add tons of replay value to Halo 3.

In my opinion Halo 3 will still be played online well into the next generation of the Xbox. Bungie delivered on all aspects of multiplayer in this gamers humble view. They could just use some more creative writers for Halo 4. That is just my opinion however. I am sure there are some fans who loved the storyline. In the end I felt Halo 3’s campaign story was just average. The other aspects of the total package more than make up for the subtle shortcomings though.
Ups
Great online multiplayer and co-op
Weapon and map balance
Great lighting effects
Downs
Campaign story is a bit weak
Rating Comments
9.0 Graphics
Colorful and very much 'Halo', not jaw droppers but truly beautiful in certain areas. Great lighting effects also.
10 Sound
Great weapon sound effects and also a very robust musical score.
10 Gameplay
The multiplayer aspects and the party system are some of the best online gaming to be played.
9.0 Fun Factor
Some of the best gameplay gaming has to offer in my opinion. However, non Halo fans may not think as much.
10 Online
Downloadable content and online multiplayer will keep you playing this game for years.
9.6

Good review, i also liked it as much as you did. I really cant get my head around why people dislike it.
The game is fun as hell. The gameplay is also refined as hell. Theres so many different ways you can play it (griftball, multi-flag, bomb, racing, those maze thingies, SWAT, you can make it play like a futuristic COD4 if you wanted to). Saved films and pics.
OMG i like this game even more after listing how much you can do with it.
How could people hate it???

It's not hate, it's jealousy.

People hate it because everyone is different. I personally thought it wasn't as good as Halo 2. And what would people be jealous of; it's not like it's the greatest game ever made.

"People hate it because everyone is different."

I think people hate halo because they put up a mental blocks before theyve actually played the game (if they played it all). Most people think its "overhyped" and go in thinking its going to suck. Even though its one of the most enjoyable fps' ever.

I dont think its the greatest game ever but, i do think it is the best fps ever...not the most revolutionary. I liked CS better than halo 2, but not halo 3. COD4 is fun, but its too easy. I beat prestige level 2 players when i first started playing.

Note: Im obviously talking about it terms of multi player. Halo single player should of had more epic moments like that stupid commercial that they showed every four minutes.

2 - I'm one of the people who dislike it
I'm not saying it's bad, it's just seemingly undeserving. Really, the mutiplayer is all fine, but seemingly the same I've seen for a while, Forge is just....blah...whatever...Woo I can place weapons...
Campaign is my main PLUS to the game. The campain is really cool. The multiplayer is there but I just don't see what's so good here.

My opinion only.

Halo isn't my cup of tea, but a very well-written and intricate review. Well done.

The only problem I had was that you were ar too generous in the graphics department. I know most of the people who call it "Halo 2.5" are usually jealous or haven't played it, but they really aren't far off. It just isn't impressive at all, below acceptable level for the 360 in it's second year.

The gameplay is rock-solid, but... I feel like I've been playing the same game since 2004 (subject to opinion).

Personally, I give it an 8 out of 10. A good game, but not great. Not enough improvement over the first two games, but any Halo fan should love it.

Come on, be nice. It's possible for people to have differing opinions, and not be an "xbot".

We're all in this together, Harry, because we're gamers :)
