Honest final version review...
The loadtimes, wow the biggest detractor for every professional review, are almost non-existent. Cutscenes load after 1-3 seconds, and battles start about 3-5 seconds, and its not a black load screen or anything its a rotating camera with a quick one liner from a random character in your party. Honestly I have not seen a single time where I have noticed ever waiting at all for the game to continue, for example can't even get a sip from my beer in between game to cutscene. 9.0

The graphics are very great. The attention to detail is amazing, backgrounds and scenes are very well done. The only draw back is the characters, while they are sharp and clean, they could have used more love, while they do still look good. Gears and Mass Effect have kind of ruined very good efforts for me so I guess I expect more. Backgrounds and cutscenes 10, characters 7.
8.5 overall.

Controls: In a turn based game controls don't really have a huge effect unless they are bad, but they are tight. The only problem I found was interacting with some probe points for treasure and rest spots requiring you to stand in spots. 9.0

Sounds: Class jrpg combat music nothing groundbreaking more of a homage to his earlier works, nothing really repeats throughout the game. Most impressive is the way music is used to impart emotion in the dream sequences. 9.5

Story: While not delivered in an innovative next-gen way (I'm referring to dream sequences/memories) they are deep and meaning-ful and help fill out the story and give it depth. While, different countries are generically named, your main care will always be for your characters. Characters each have great personality and have great full backgrounds and stories and you do end up caring for them. 9.5

Overall about a 9.2 definitely worth picking up, but not without some occasional flaws. Smooth presentation and great effort, you won't go wrong sinking 70 hours in this epic.

Jeez I just got to the 2nd disc myself. You must of crused thru it. I agree though with the load times with it not being bad. It's just like all others and the graphics are top notch. The story itself is working out pretty slick and the characters all have there own personalities and grow throughout the game, but you are right that the dream parts are a bit old...

A fun and worthwhile jRPG to play Mistwalker should make more of this kind than Blue Dragon and I really liked BD. LO is harder, grittier, and has good stuff working for it.

The gameplay I liked the rings addition adding damage to certian creatures or abilities. Linking skills from mortals to immortals worked well and plenty of places to go. Good pace and leveling done here.

Man I almost wish I could've been patient to play this. I went to get it last Tuesday but found out it was only the ship date. Then when I got home my brother brought by Mass Effect because he finally finished it...Now I am stuck into Mass Effect and don't want to start Lost Odyssey until I finish ME. Oh well, not the worst situation to be in. lol. Thanks for the review OldSchool.

2.1 - I wanted to agree with you both
Syko, I'm with you. Lol had a 12 hour day went on Tuesday to pick it up and had to wait another day, so I finally picked up some other games I had pre-ordered. The great part is I haven't touched them yet. I did finally run into some load screens, but nothing has topped 5 seconds through disk 2.

PS360Wii yeah I'm enjoying the pacing, its seems like when I get tired of watching cutscenes (yes it can happen) you spend the next 2 hours in combat. Then, when you get tired of combat you are back to cutscenes delivering a great story. My only negative is wow, this guy needs a hug. I mean you need razor blades for the story up until the end of disk one, its simply that sad. I'm happy to support this effort as games like this need to reach more audiences than the importing hardcore, or only the Japanese audience.

As for the not enough innovation, I'm sticking with if it aint broken don't fix it. There is plenty of great mechanics in the game with great variety of things to do (mini-game-like mechanics aplenty). In fact the basic dream recall short stories add something not found in most most games, the necessity of being literate.

3 - I am lovin this game
At the first part of disk 1 I was about to give up on LO and put it into the typical jrpg "meh" bin. I stuck with it and boy am I glad. As I progressed into the deeper aspects of the game and some new party members with new skills for Kaim and Seth to learn I was hooked. I was up to 3 am accidentally playing this game when I had to work in 3 hours. Perhaps the craziest part? A tear. One of the dreams invoked such strong memories, an honest to God tear came out. Now, I'm not the type that cries on my girlfriend's shoulder at movies. Nor has any other game ever so much as moistened my eyes. LO has a strong flair for emotional story telling. This game is something special. So to leave you three parting words.
Buy This Game.

4 - OSG,
You really do provide great reviews. Much better than is what published. On top of that you are concise and cut straight to the point.

I'll have to add you to the track list and see what else you review in the future.

Cheers!
