Prince Of Persia. Cell Shaded Graphics. A New Prince. A New Experience ??
As a fan of Sands Of Time, I was eager to get my hands on this latest incarnation of the Prince. When Sands Of Time was released it was a fresh new direction in gaming. The platforming was excellent. The controls were awesome. The combat was cool. The camera was a let down. At times it frustrated me and it didn't improve much over the next 2 sequels. But It was nonetheless, a great gaming experience.
Now to the new Prince. And in my opinion, he is way cooler than the last Prince. Well to be technical hes not even a Prince, hes a "Tomb Raider" And that adds more to his personality. He is fresh. And a welcome addition to Prince Of Persia. The voice acting was great. They cast the Prince well. Elika is another great addition. And boy does she come in handy. She has a wide variety of moves that are useful. I love the new direction they headed with Prince Of Persia. The cell shaded characters are awesome and they stand out. It reminded me alot of Fear Effect on the PS1, which was one of my favorite games. I was skeptical at first but after seeing the game in action all my worries about the graphics went out the window. One little hiccup was the Princes shadow at the end of the game. when running it looked something from the NES era. It was very noticeable. The pixels were massive. But I love the graphics of this game. It is a welcome change in an era dominated by games using Unreal Engine 3.
Level design is typical Prince Of Persia. To be honest anyone who has played the previous Prince Of Persia games will feel somewhat disappointed with the way the levels play out. It doesn't really offer anything new. I feel that the levels of this game could of been a bit more interactive and open. The entire game is restricted to an underground city, which I was very disappointed in. The one level I did enjoy was the temple at the end of the game. It is one of the most trippy levels you will experience. I wont ruin it more, but if you get there you're in for a mind bending experience.
The game focuses alot more on running through the level as opposed to fighting your way through it. There isn't alot of enemies to fight. Which is a pity because the combat system is far superior to the last gen versions of Prince Of Persia. The combo system is fantastic, and having Elika by your side adds to the fun. Even the Boss battles are alot of fun. Enjoy the fighting, because you wont be able to do much of it.
Overall, I was pleased with the latest incarnation of Prince Of Persia. It is an improvement over the last gen. I guess what let me down was I was expecting Assassins Creed 2, but got Prince Of Persia 4 instead. If you go into this game expecting Assassins Creed you will be let down.
If you are a Prince Of Persia buff and you want something new, you may be disappointed with the platforming aspect of it. It doesn't bring much more to the plate. But if you have never played a Prince Of Persia Game then get this game now and play it. Its Awesome
