When the first Mercenaries released on the Xbox, I really didn't know what the game was about or what to expect. The game really shocked me! Blowing stuff up has never been so much fun. Mercenaries 2 follows straight in as the previous version. Here is my quick Pro/Con list.
+Pro+
+Blowing stuff up. Almost everything in the world can be destroyed.
+Huge explosions. <Seriously some of the huge bombs are ridiculous>
+Easy to drive vehicles. <Devs should take note of the Helicopter
controls. Not horrible like BF: Bad Company.>
+Guns, vehicles, support, and air strikes are abundant, plentiful, and provide enough variety to destroy buildings, people, and vehicles in multiple ways.
+Plethora of things to do.
+++CO-OP. The game is much more fulfilling playing co-op.
-Cons-
-First and foremost. The stupid chick who runs the operation <she gives you some of your first missions> voice is SUPER annoying. This can be solved by turning off the voices.
-Missions can get redundant and annoying. Example: Take vehicle A which can be blown up from point X to point Y without dying or in so much time. A little more variety would be nice. If your game is based on destruction, why stray away from what makes it fun?
-Tanks controls are kind of clunky.
-Hijacking is lame. <any vehicle>. Devs need to stop with the button sequences.
-Story is lame. <I have skipped all cut scenes after seeing the first couple>
-Airstrikes - Most of the lower tier airstrikes require you to pop smoke to initiate the strike. This can be a pain if you don't have a vehicle or the area is swarmed with enemies. Laser designators should been used for all.
In all the game is pretty damn fun. At least most of the above issues for me, can be fixed in the options menu or just skipped. When it comes to a game like this, I don't need the story and cheesy dialogue. All I need is some big guns and tons of firepower. If you like sandbox game play with a plenty of freedom, you probably want to either rent or buy this game. Personally it was a day one purchase since I enjoyed the first one and co-op is always a blast.
