For the past three weeks my Xbox 360 has played home to one of the most beautifully crafted games to date, Assassins Creed. It did take me longer to finish than I intended for a variety of reasons. Firstly, it was Christmas time and so most of my energy and time was utilized by me running around buying gifts and sorting out Christmas preparations. I mustn’t blame Christmas solely for my lack of gameplay because it was also the game itself that made me take my time. The game is incredibly repetitive. Majority of the game is taken up by you, playing an assassin who goes by the name Altair, seeking out targets and snuffing them out.
Altair is an all round badass who gets himself on the wrong side of moral laws of his clan [the assassins]. To cut a long story short, the clan leader, Al Mualim, rids Altair of his rank and skill. Al Mualim must have had some sort of secret power that gives him the ability to do such things that we can’t imagine…
After a general look around the city you are rudely waken up in the present day. Turns out you are being held by a group of scientists who are doing tests on you for an unknown purpose. A machine called the Animus transports your mind from the present day to the past where you inhabit your ancestor’s [Altair] body. The scientists order you to perform tasks which you are more than happy to fulfill.
Assassins Creed is a game you must look back on and admire the beauty both graphically and story based. The games graphics are the best the 360 has ever seen.
The controls are easy and work well. I hardly ever had a problem with the control system apart from a few minor glitches. AC is let down by the amazing number of jumps. AC does jump a lot and it can get rather annoying stopping and stopping and stopping…well you get the idea.
All this is made up by the sheer innovation of the game. Climbing up hundreds of meters and looking over a ledge and seeing for miles upon miles is just beautiful. If you liked Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia then this is the perfect game for you and your library.
