Better Than Gears Of War 2? Yes.
So. PS3 launch. You head over to get your PS3, and see the limited amount of launch titles. The one that catches your eye the most, would probably be resistance. So you go home, unplug your PS2, and fire up your new PS3. Once you have signed up for PSN, you start up Resistance. When you start, you see how much the graphics, and sounds have improved from the PS2. Resistance was the best game of its time (In my opinion). Resistance 2, is better.
At the end of Resistance Fall of man *SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T COMPLETED RESISTANCE YET* Nathan Hale gets taken off in a helicopter after having shutdown the Chimeran Spire. When you start Resistance 2, you are greeted with this Cutscene, but with more added on. The new graphics of Resistance 2 make you glued to the screen, not wanting to skip the glorius HD beauty. So, once done, you are launched into the game.
The first thing you will see, is a Goliath in the background, lots of moving grass and trees, and Blake, simply stood there. The first thing that i checked, was to see if Resitance had taken a turn and gone slightly towards Halo. By this i mean, being able to see your legs. But, i was dissapointed to see, that you could not. This dissapoints me, because i think that it is these tiny details that make a game that bit greater. Anyway, i was glad that it followed Resitance FOM and kept the moving leaves, so then i pushed the left analog stick forwards. What? I can't move?! Is it a fault with the game? Is my controller okay? Or is it meant to be that way? Thankfully, it was meant to be like that, so my worries were over, for now anyway.
As you will remember, the first weapon you had in Resistance FOM was the Carbine. But this was because you just came off of a plane, on which you had rearmed yourself. In Resistance 2, you had just come off a plane, but it was not a flying fortress type plane like in Resistance 1. So the first weapon you get in this game, is the amazing new Magnum. This is not the only new weapon that there is in the game, as there are about a dozen new weapons. I am even counting the improved weapons, such as the new Auger.
The next thing you have to do, is follow Blake. Then, you come up to a wooden fence/decking area. It says press X to jump. Other than LittleBigPlanet, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, i think this is one of those rare games where you actually have to jump to continue. Unlike on Far Cry 2 or on Halo, where if there was no jump button, you would still be able to 100% the game. Well, maybe not 100%, but at least complete the campaign.
Then, you meet your old friend. The LAARK. Yes. The rocket launcher. You use this to take out the Goliath, but it is not over after this. You may be thinking, but where are all of the Chimera? Well, after being told everyting that you need to know, you finally get to kill some of them. You will soon realise that they have evolved in many new ways.
If i was to compare this to Gears Of War 2 (Which i will do fully one day) I would say that this is better. By far. Resistance 1 was not as good as Gears of War 1. But Gears of War 2 has not improved that much, wheras Resistance 2 has. If we look at the graphics on a scale of improvement, Gears of War had more time to improve as it came out some time before Resistance. GOW 2 has only improved on the weapons, realism, and slightly on the graphics. But Resitance 2 has improved on every aspect. Except the fact that most of the missions are inside a Chimeran ship or tower. So Resitance 2, is better than Gears of War 2.
Once you have completed the story of Resistance 2, you will have your fair share of trophies. So, you will take a break and see what all of this 60 player hype is all about, and you will go to see how laggy it is. Not at all. You think, 60 players will lag the game to death, and it will probably make your console freeze. But no. No lag whatsoever. The occasional glitch maybe, although i havent found one yet.
On the whole, Resitance 2 is a great game, very mush improved on the first one, and it gives you a great understanding of what Resitance is all about. Next stop, Resitance 3!
