I cant see many FPS's matching this for a long time, when it comes to genuine excitement.
With first person shooters, it's hard to shake off the feeling that you're being led through a series of planned encounters. CoD4 is definetly as guilty of this as the next FPS, its hard to notice though as a burning helicopter flies over youre head and smashes into the ground and youre senses wilt under its frantic pace.
The game takes place over 30 days from the perspective of two characters. The difference between the two characters extends beyond there dodgy accents. When you're playing as Jackson its all middle eastern cities with close quarters combat and RPG's flying over you're head. Its extremely exciting and once each levels over you'll need to take a gasp of air and ready yourself for the next one. But over in Russia, the SAS boys only engage enemys when they have to and keep themselves to themselves. This can be just as exiciting and tense especially in the "All qhillied up" level which is the stand out moment of the game.
Its a shame that the single player game is so short. It will probally only take you about six hours to complete but don't worry because the online play more than makes up for the short story. It could quite possibly be the longest time i have ever spent on a single game. There are many different modes to choose from and they'll keep you hooked for months to come. You can also create a custom class that you take into battle with you. You can assign it different weapons and perks which range from dropping a grenade when you die and sprinting for longer distances. These can easily give you the edge in some battles and once you find you're favoured class you'll be causing mayhem on the battlefield.
All in all this is one of the standout games of it's genre and maybe this generation. If you haven't picked this up yet then i strongly suggest you do.
