Manhunt 2 "Uncut" for The Netherlands - "Time to import"
21
Despite Manhunt 2 being revised for its 31st October release in the US and currently banned in the UK by the BBFC, it seems the game will slip through the net into Europe via The Netherlands, since the country's Ministry is powerless to ban the controversial Wii/PSP/PS2 game from Rockstar and publisher Take Two.
Apparently it seems that the Dutch Ministry is refusing to step in and prevent the game from hitting The Netherlands as it would prove to be a matter of conflict with current law in that country. Whilst people can still be prosecuted if the game is distributed to those under the age of 16, no cases such as this have ever been tried in the Netherlands.

I need my fix too!
It was still terribly stupid to ban Manhunt 2. The AO was also a forced censor.

3.1 - I wish I lived in Holland.
Then I could smoke pot and play violent video games without worrying about being arrested. Wouldn't that be swell?
Oh yeah, don't forget the hookers. I've heard you have to pay tax on em.

3.2 - No, it's the other way around.
The hookers have to pay income tax, and then they're legal. But, yes you can buy and smoke weed legally, everywere in Holland.

6 - They better not censor or ban any media content in the Netherlands.
We are free-minded people and we don't take that crap. There would be some riots and I would participate in them.
With the exception of kiddy-porn and all that type of crap, off course.

9 - Wii Modchip pays off again, Time to import.
Man I love how here in America we are given the "Illusion" of freedom and we wave our flag claiming it. But when it comes down to it we are forced to do what the Government wants. God bless the Netherlands for their "True" freedom and their Heineken. =)
As I always say, The day Heineken is a domestic. Is the day I have found my home.

9.1 - Hey it aint ALL good here in Holland.
We got our share of shady politicians and hidden agendas. I think the main difference is, out here people are taught to be critical and think for themselves more, so things are more often openly questioned.
I think you can divide the American population into two parts, the people that can think for themselves, and the people that blindly follow the government. You obviously represent the thinkers, let's hope the other half opens its eyes before Bush and friends turn your country into a dictatorship. God bless the USA!
And yes you gotta love your Heiny's.

LOL, Yeah exactly. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, No matter where you are in the world. But your Government doesn't have this sick agenda to "dumb" down it's own people to protect their goal of total control over the masses. USA is a great place to live if you are stinking rich(Best schools, Healthcare, etc...If you can afford the best). If not it is mediocre at best.
"I think the main difference is, out here people are taught to be critical and think for themselves more, so things are more often openly questioned."
I remember a country that was founded on ideals like that, Can't remember the name of the place though, lol.
Edit - @leshrac55, Agreed 100%, however in America it was done the way everything is done by essentially banning it without ever saying it. It was a backdoor ban by the ESRB. And if they don't have a single tie to the government I would be more shocked than anything they cut from this game...

9.3 - Government didn't ban Manhunt
Not that various government officials wouldn't like to ban Manhunt 2, but the government didn't ban Manhunt 2 in the US. Nintendo and Sony did (and Microsoft would have if the game were being released for its console) because they refuse to allow an AO game on their platforms. I suppose that puts the ESRB at partial fault as well, since they apparently feel the need to distinguish an "M" game (for 17 and older) from an AO game (for 18 and older). Apparently the extra year goes a long way in preparing you for the additional horrors present in Manhunt 2.

So if any country starts banning games
Start banning movies then also
The Excorsist and all those. I mean
HOW STUPID DOES IT SOUNDS???
You just make sure they don't sell it under 16 or 18. But for the rest, any try to ban games with violence, will in the end work out in movies also, in books, in anything.
What will we get in the end? We may only read Donald Duck and watch Sesame Street, and as soon as the big blue bird hits another character, they put your TV on black screen for a day?
POLITICIANS ARE WANKERS.

It's a sign of the world about to end! I, and I think many others will as well, clicked "agree" on a comment made by TheMART!
AO games should be done away with, or be made like NC-17 with movies. There is obviously a thiriving movie industry with NC-17 movies (the harshest rating), you just never see them in theatres. We either need to become accepting of AO games or start making NC-17 movies as bad as AO games, which would be the end of the porn industry.
How you tell a story doesn't matter. Be it in a book, movie, or video game, people should be able to tell their story however they want, even if it is subject to ratings that will make some people unable to experiance the story. As it is now, only books and movies have that freedom, and, heck, both of them can get out of ratings (books don't have a ratings system, and movies can go unrated).
Only video games are censored ways of telling stories.

11.2 - Love it
Get yourself an Atari 2600 and then get Halloween. In Shadowrun for the SNES and Genesis you can put a gun to the back of a cops head and pull the trigger.
Golgo 13 on NES, you get laid.
Who can I sue for infringing upon my liberty?

12 - Hey Netherlands!
Since you are truly a free country, feel free to take the Statue of Liberty, since that is what LIBERTY is. Enjoy.
Oh BTW, the USA is changing its name. Henceforth, I live in the Theocratic States of America. The world's strongest Theocracy.
I might have to go to Canada (also a freer country) to get this then smuggle it across the border.
