A 16 hour old article says 4.48 million have been shipped.
This says 6 million.

Thats a difference of 1.52 million.
If each PS3 is approx 0.33 of a meter long then that would mean that end to end 1.52 million would stretch for 506km or 312miles.

How can 2 figures who both claim to be accurate be so far apart?

They're being creative with numbers again I guess. They are constantly posting the units they WISH they had sold I bet.

Their goal first was:

6 million sold @ march 2007
then 6 million sold in the fiscal year ending 01-07-2007

They couldn't make it. They ended about 3.5 mln. at the end of June for sure. The temporary price cut in USA for July made a jump of 123%, but the USA sales were under 100k then for 3 months. World wide three months about 200k.

Thus logical thinking gives:

jump of 123% in USA: makes about 223k sold in USA for July. Plus 100k, well lets be very optimistic, also 200k for the rest of the world. Makes 423k sold in July world wide.

3.5 mln. sold at the end of June + 423k sold in July makes? Right. At the most 4 mln.

Sony probably has shipped 4.5 mln. to the end of the fiscal year and a lot extra in July to what 5 mln. or maybe 6mln.

the article from yesterday came from a source that isn't half as reliable as this

6 million SOLD.

THE FIGURES FROM YESTERDAY DIDN'T INCLUDE THE PRICE-CUT SALES SPIKE

BTW, those 4.48million units SOLD were only to the end of June, BEFORE E3 and the price drop. Dont be surprised if its over 5 million by now.

Also the 6 million is GFK's numbers not Sonys. If there is a descrepencey between NPD and GFK you cant blame Sony for what 2 separate companies. I Know your really nervous because that gap is shrinking Mart but if thats all you have left to complain about your really grasping at straws now.

I thought of late that the Mart was getting a little quiet, posting a lot less inflammatory comments. Perhaps I thought he’s becoming less biased in his views and acting like a true gamer, not some blinkered MS fanboy. Now this may of been due to Microsoft's recent 1 billion cost for defective (1 in every 3) units, Moore leaving to pastures new, slower sales for microsoft in the Q2 of this year, PS3 sales improving after the great showing at E3 (the PS3 future is looking all the brighter). Obviously, fool me to think the leopard would change his spots . . . tch tch.

Also, the Mart suggesting Sony making up figures (I know they’ve been guilty for fudging some figures in the past, but really MS have been guilty, hell most companies in the past have been guilty of this before, its not as if MS have a halo (no pun intended) over their heads, with angelic smiles of innocence.

We can all make guesses, as most have assumed, 6 mil shipped, 4.48 sold globally. I’m sure this will be the case in official NPD figures in the coming month/s, and if so, Sony are doing well with a limited game library, but with more title coming in the next few months, more again before xmas, and next year looking good, sales can only improve.

10+ million sold by March 08. Agree or disagree, it is what it is, a prediction. In sold, I mean in the hands of PS3 owners. Sony will introduce the 399 model close to the holidays and that chart will start spiking.

If u people bothered to look at the next page of the article it compares it with the PS0ne and Ps2. These two items didn't ship 102 or 118. THEY SOLD that many. If u guys know how a table of figures work then you'll know that they are all comparitively similar. They wouldn't list the PS1 and PS2 as sold and the PS3 as shipped. Doesn't makes sense. And if u think these numbers are fake, read the last comment made by the guy at the end of the article.

on topic, it's good that Sony has shipped 6 million units, meaning that those that want the 60gig PS3 for $500, but can't quite afford it yet, will probably still be able to pick one up, though i'm guessing by the end of the holidays this year, stock will probably be depleted, as there are too many high profile games hitting that will push units.

i don't care about sales numbers, as long as the games i want to play hit the PS3 (ie, RE5, Assassin's Creed, Stranglehold, which are multi-platform. i could care less about them coming to the 360, i just want to play it on my PS3). i feel sorry for the Wii owners, actually, as they won't be getting games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, MGS4, FFXIII, FFXIII Versus, Killzone, RE5, DMC4, Little Big Planet, White Knight Story, etc. not like 360 and PS3 owners. and these just aren't games with pretty graphics, each and every one of them are pushing the envelope, and accomplishing things that just *COULD NOT be done on previous consoles, and not just graphically, but in AI, Physics, etc.

sure, the Wii is selling like hotcakes now, but what happens *AFTER, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, and Zelda hit?

what will the casuals play when they get tired of Wii Sports (and they will)?

what will Nintendo fans do when they're done with the "big three" Nintendo franchises, and want more?

they'll probably end up getting a 360 or PS3, because that's where the genre-pushing and defining games seem to be (just ask Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, and whatever Team Ico are working on for the PS3).
