Are criticisms of F1 2009's visuals justified?

In a short editorial, Chequered Pad examines whether F1 2009 is worthy of all the criticism it is receiving months ahead of release. Many are complaining that it's the worst looking F1 game for years, while others say it looks even worse than other Wii or PSP driving games. Comparison shots with other games on these platforms help to discover where it stands.

A quick visit to the Codemasters forums or racing sites should show you otherwise ;)

Well when you have games like Gran turismo and Forza and then you get this, I can see why people might be a bit upset...

it's on wii lol what were u expecting. i hardly think wii owners will be all that bothered since when they buy the console they don't exactly have graphics in mind. these really are poor though tbh and i'm sure the wii can do better

@ Pope_John_Paul_II
Who in the right mind would think a Wii game should look as good as a PS3 title. Why you would compare those 2 games amazes me.

"it's on wii lol what were u expecting"

Oops, LOL, sry, Im getting to old to read. I need some glasses. maybe Bono will give me his glasses to read.

Either way, this looks like crap for a wii game, the wii can push better graphics than this crap. Im pretty sure it has the ability to push a game like GT4 in terms of graphics.

EDIT: LOL thanx Bono! :)

I'm sad sony sold the F1 license, i thought F1: CE for the PS3 was really good. Now that they have developed their tech to a higher level, they could of really taken it to the next level.

3.1 - Too bad the F1 committee was so greedy
They asked for $15 million to license the F1 brand, which is almost the cost of developing the game itself. I wish Sony hadn't dropped them, but it was a sound business decision.

this is ridiculous, this just makes me want to cry. Playing F1 on the PS3 was amazing, this is just junk.

this is what makes this worse:

"The game’s lead format is Nintendo Wii, which makes it slightly more difficult to perform a comparison."

WTF?

""The game’s lead format is Nintendo Wii, which makes it slightly more difficult to perform a comparison."

it's because the 2 platforms the games on are psp and wii. it's hard to compare the 2 with the different screen res's etc etc.

but still porting a wii game to psp is :/ i dunno is this regular practice? i wudda thought its just better to develop the game for both, i mean the platforms are v different

at the moment, the Wii is considered by some developpers as being comparable wih the PSP and the PS2. There are quite a few games that have been put on the Wii and the PSP, the Wii and the PS2 or all 3 of them. This is the main reason alot of 3rd party games look so dated on the Wii, they are still being developped with the PSP/PS2 in mind.

Of course, doing so also allows the devs to develop a game for over 200 millions potential customers, about 4 times more than developping a game for 360/PS3. And at a lower cost too.

STK026 has a point yet we are talking about code masters the same guys who tried to make games with out paying console royalties LOL. I don't think they cared all that much you know?

It doesn't have the license, but does GT5 still have the psuedo F1 cars.
Serious hope so, that was the best car of any game, ever with the possible exception of Toads go-kart.

I don't see what the problem is...

The graphics look about right for a Wii game. A few months polish and that'll do it.

This is NOT representative of the PS3/360 version which is a whole different version... F1 2010!!
