WhatTheyPlay Review: Hammerin' Hero

Hammerin' Hero is an action game for the PSP that puts you in the role of Genzo Tamura, a young man set on preventing an evil construction company from evicting his neighbors. To do so, he must fight a variety of bad guys in humorous scenarios including fights on a baseball diamond, in a television studio, and even in outer space.

Genzo can outfit himself in a variety of costumes related to different jobs, and each gives him different attacks. For example, as a carpenter, he can swing a large hammer at enemies, though as a baseball player he'll have a bat to swing, and playing as a disc jockey lets him throw a record like a boomerang and hit nearby enemies with a boombox. The missions play out pretty simply, with Genzo progressing through lesser foes until he reaches a more complicated end boss, though Hammerin' Hero is meant to provide a strong challenge to players. On the standard difficulty level, your character will fall after taking one hit, and you only have a limited amount of lives to get through each stage. A lower difficulty opens up after a few failed attempts, though, so some may need to struggle for a bit before an easier option is unlocked.
