Sony Confirms Patapon 2 Will be Download Only

I so hate this I like to own a hard disk copy over just a voucher to let me download the game. I can see so many bad things come out of this and good things too but I don't think this is a wise move.

I will list why it is bad and why it is good. If you do some thing wrong and can't use PSN any more you are out your money and game. You can't sell the game after you beat the game. There is the chance of prices being priced to high and not coming down.

Why it is good developers get more money off the game, only one person can play it.

I also think this is bad because what if Patapon 2 sells badly because less people buy it because they can't download stuff online. They don't have a credit/debt card.

So to me I think this is a bad move but I don't want Patapon 2 to sell badly and never get a Patapon 3 because of this move. I don't see why Sony can't launch Patapon 2 on both a hard disk and PSN.

I just hope Patapon 2 sells really well because the first was great and the second looks even better.

I loose myself whilst playing Patapon, what I think is an hour turns out to be 5. Cant wait for P2, the first was almost perfect IMO.

its becoming more apparent that there will be a UMD-less PSP on the horizon this year. if this is the case, they have to do something for the people who dont have wireless running throughout their homes, like make a contract with some retailer to have download stations across the nation.

I thought digital distribution was stupid before messing around with the AppStore on the iPhone (no, I'm not advocating it as a gaming device over a PSP or DS, the games are extremely shallow). For a handheld device, I wouldn't mind the library being distributed solely by downloads, assuming the developers pass some of the distribution savings on to the consumers. If it saves me money, I'll take simply having the file over a hard-copy as long as they allow you to re-download content you have already purchased. I'm not sure I'd like this to be implemented on consoles just yet, but handhelds may do ok with it. To make it fully accessible, they need to have a way for you to bring in your memory card to a game store, pay the price, and have them put it on the card for you; that way even people without internet access can still get the games. It will be interesting to see how this Patapon2 situation pans out in the end...

This is why Digital Distribution will fail:

1. People like to physically own games. Also, considering that Sony will release this at $20.00 (the same price as UMD retail) gamers will either wait in hopes for a physical release stateside or will import the UK version. Sony needs to learn that you can't charge outrages amounts for digital distributed software. They forgot that this is suppose to be a benefit to gamers by providing games at 1/2 the cost or less than retail because they cut out the middleman and the cost of production.

2. Not everyone is blessed with a broadband connection or of age to purchase things by credit card.

I know Sony wants to save money by going UMD'less...The simple thing is to put the Game on a Sony Memory Stick with just enough room for Game Saves. Sony Memory Stick cost Sony Pennies compared to the cost of UMD's, so stop screwing and making all your customers mad. Just put the freaking game on a Sony Memory Stick and slap it in a case, problem solved, No UMD and the game is on your proprietary Sony memory stick that cost you almost nothing!

This is strange, Patapon 2 released in Europe on UMD, the game is already translated in english, french, spanish, etc... so why Sony couldn't use european copies for the US market?

I seriously think the PSP should go all downloadable. UMD's are terrible, they stop me from using my PSP. I'm not carrying around stupid UMD's if it is supposed to be portable.
