You CAN use a DualShock 3 with Resitance: Retribution on a PSP-1000

In Joystiq's recent review of the upcoming PSP game, Resistance Retribution, they mistakenly take Sony to task for locking out PSP-1000 owners from using the DualShock 3 connectivity that R:R features. This seemed suspicious from what we were familiar with, so we talked to Jeff Rubenstein from the PS.Blog who set matters straight.

Indeed. I have 2 1001 model PSPs, one for original PSP games with factory firmware and my original model for homebrew emulation of the 16-bit consoles. I'm glad that Resistance Retribution will be compatible with the DS3 on the original model. Good on Sony for not forgetting us early PSP adopters.

i recommend that u get the fat psp (psp 1000) it has longer battery life and u can easily mod the psp (Youtube it) and play all the ps1 games its much mcuh more fun, However i just bought a fat psp form Amazon a New one is more expansive than the psp-3000 (mainly because its hackable the fat one i mean) but a second hand is cheap.

3.1 - have you ever seen people carrying their PS3 around?
this feature will only work when the PSP is connected to the PS3 via USB! Remote play is not supported!

3.2 - Carry a DS3 around?
Sure, but only if you plan on carrying around a PS3 and a generator and a parking permit. Now THAT'S portability.

Anybody with a brain could have figured that out. The PSP, regardless of model, still requires a PS3 and the Resistance 2 game. The PSP is NOT connected via the video output cables but instead digitally with the USB. So even if you have the old PSP's without video out functionality you should still be able to connect directly to your PS3 to play with a SIXAXIS or DS3.

I hope more games will support this awesome feature. It's like Remote Play but the other way around.

7 - The true future of the portable players.....
will be realized once extremely fast wireless internet is globally available so that you can play a PS3 (or PS4, 5 etc)game via remote play on a PSP2, 3 or whatever is out at that time. I would use my PSP a whole lot more if the infrastructure is in place for this. Now that would be awesome as it would be as good as having a portable PS3 with you, on the go and access to all your stuff on the hard drive!
