Why PSP Will Have a Big Year in 2009

The PSP sold 50 million units with much effort for Sony. In 2009, Sony may finally give their handheld system the attention it deserves.

This will be a make-or-break year for the PSP i believe. There are quite a few AAA games coming out this year and next that i really think can rejuvenate the PSP. LittleBigPlanet, Assassin's Creed, Motorstorm, Dissidia, etc...the list goes on which is something us PSP users haven't seen...ever.

1.1 - completely agree
this is looking like the greatest year yet for the PSP. Rumours of the PSP 4000, strong first party support, increasing third party support, rumoured new IP and more games at E3. I know i for one will be buying a ton of PSP games this year, hopefully lots of other people will do the same so we can keep getting quality games.

Right, I plan on picking up 3 of the 4 games that you listed. No plans on picking up Motorstorm yet but I will be getting Resistance, and I herd that there MIGHT be another God of War and Grand Theft Auto on the way.

Has anyone played Prinny? I'm interested but not sure about it.

Prinny is really good, if you've been gaming long enough to remember the original Castlevanias and Contras. Super old-school, pixel-perfect platforming at its infuriating finest. It's not for those looking for a quick and simple game... it's pretty tough. It's also very gorgeous to look at and humorous in its presentation.

I'd recommend it, but I'm a jaded gamer sick of all these new "easy" games that hold your hand (literally in the case of the new Prince of Persia) until you reach the credits.

50 mil units and not even counting the Japanese MH series ( which pretty much saved the system there) but outside Japan, the games are never on the chart. How is this good for the system? Your list of game like many others before haven't done much, the system is being bought for easy home brew and multimedia device... I think if it was UMD only and no memory stick maybe it might help to stop the piracy...

Edit:

I think Sony is aware of the fact, but it's obvious you have a system with high user base and your games aren't selling well... action needs to be taken and I hope Sony can figure it out. I am not a fan of piracy for gaming.

I'm obviously buying Assassin's Creed (i started that petition back in Nov 2007 so i feel obligated), as well as LBP, Motorstorm, and a few others. I'm just glad we're finally getting some games, hopefully developers have learned from God of War and Crisis Core and develop the games for the PSP and not as a port.

The reason games aren't selling well on the PSP is because last year there were hardly any games to be bought, let alone good ones.

4.1 - for me
Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, Assassin's Creed, LittleBigPlanet Portable, Rock Band: Unplugged, Final Fantasy: Dissidia, Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite, Resistance: Retribution, Patapon 2, and Gran Turismo Portable (if it does come out this year). Probably a couple others that get announced later on too.

4.2 - GT Portable
I don't think that Sony has anyone working on this. GT 5 is not even done yet.

But I would also pick it up.

for years we have whined and threw stones at sony for not having games on the psp. many people are quick to say psp has no games but I can guarantee you they would not buy half of the games they claim to say they need. I for one have shown my dissatisfaction on psp not having games but have enjoyed many titles on the psp, my main use is music and podcasts for work. I will back my claims made before about not enough games and buy most or all the ones that arouse my interest.

7.1 - I do agree
The PSP and the DS are gonna bring it this year.

And for all those who said that the PSP is dying, i couldn't think of better way for it to go out, but you know with some many great titles coming out this year and next year (2010) I feel proud to own one
