Rumor: Ready at Dawn developing new PSP God of War

Joystiq writes: "If Tuesday's reveal of new -- even exciting -- games coming to PSP knocked you on your rump, you'd best be seated before reading any futher. Comfy? Good. Here's the deal: Joystiq has learned from a trusted source that Ready at Dawn, the studio behind the PSP's excellent God of War: Chains of Olympus, is working on a new Kratos adventure for PSP. Apparently the studio hasn't sworn off PSP development once and for all.

The informant tells us Ready at Dawn did, in fact, ship all of its PSP development kits back to Sony last summer, but received new kits in late 2008 after Sony ordered up the sequel. It's possible that, given its current state of development, the game might appear in some form at June's E3 Expo, our source reports. The title seems an unlikely candidate for release this year, but could be timed to coincide with God of War III's launch, which may occur in early 2010."

1 - God of War
I loved Chains of Olympus so I am hoping that this is true.

God of War III for the PS3 and a new God of War for PSP, man Sony is really outdoing themselves as of late.

Awesome news. Chains of Olympus was incredible. People can't believe that a portable game can look that good when they ask what I'm playing.

I thought the sent back there development kits for the PSP and was moving to the console market.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008...

"Developer Ready at Dawn has turned its back on Sony's handheld, with a short post on the company's website confirming that the studio is "now officially done with PSP development." Ready at Dawn is best recognized for two of the PSP's more landmark titles, namely Daxter and last year's God of War: Chains of Olympus, though the company's recent success in bringing Capcom's Okami to the Wii may have more than a little to do with the dev's shifting priorities."

If this rumor turn out to be true (take it as you will) all I can say is gigaty gigaty goo GOWCoO was the best game I played on the PSP and was the main reason I got the PSP in the 1st place A sequal too CoO would be sweet.

" Are Ready at Dawn reconsidering their flight from Playstation Portable development?

You may recall that back in June, Ready at Dawn announced that they were going to stop developing for the PSP after putting out the fantabulous God of War: Chains of Olympus. They even put their money where their mouth was, returning all of the PSP dev kits to Sony.

But recently they posted about the continued success of Chains and Daxter.

According to Gamasutra, 2 out of 5 top PSP games sold on Amazon in the US last week were Ready At Dawn games with Daxter and Chains of Olympus both making the top 5.

Maybe we should reconsider this whole ‘no more PSP games’ thing because we seem to be doing pretty good at it

It sounds like they are kidding, but why not return to the PSP. Maybe Sony should send those boxes back, filled to the brim with cash to help convince Ready at Dawn."

As much as I would like to see it, I honestly think they have moved on. A lot of developers use PSP as a proving ground, of sorts. I don't think it's fair to tie developers to a handheld if they have visions beyond it.

If Ready at Dawn can deliver a game worthy of the home consoles, I fully support them and hope they achieve the same level of sucess.

However, maybe that's why they sent their PSP dev kits back. With their game being multiplatform, it means there's no Sony funding in it, if they had a crutch to lean on with the PSP, they may not have pushed as hard as they could with their own IP.

I think at the end of this year, Sony will have enough profit to invest in a new inhouse studio and I think they will approach Ready At Dawn or High Impact Games after their own multiplat titles, much like what happened with Guerilla years back and I'm not just talking PSP exclusives.

I'm not sure if a new GoW PSP would be a wise idea due to III finishing the trilogy, I mean, where could it fit. I think its much better for RAD to make Jak PSP.

With the resurgence in 1st and 3rd party support on the psp, I won't be surprised if Ready at Dawn really is reconsidering making another psp game, only time will tell.

R@D complained about about two things when making Chains of Olympus;

-not having enough time, and...
-not fully utilizing the extra 111MHz Sony unlocked midway through development.

R@D said their PSP devkits were optimized quite well in terms of utilizing the PSP, BUT went on to say that they could have gotten even more out of the PSP if they had more time. So i REALLY hope there's a sequel in the works.
