Final Fantasy Titles Do Better On PSP Than DS

It's well documented that Square Enix heavily supported handhelds in 2008, but it's also well documented that Square Enix are supporting the DS much more than they are the PSP.

It's obvious to see why Square Enix would do this, but is it really a wise decision when the numbers are actually crunched?

There are better RPG's on the DS then Final Fantasy. There are no better RPG's then Final Fantasy on the PSP.

I do agree with you. You really can't name any other RPG to go on the PSP than Final Fantasy.

Sony platforms always deliver for publishers. It's history past and present. Nintendo delivers mostly for nintendo..lol

1.4 - Not sure why Kigmal is getting Disagrees
The PSP's library pales in comparisons to the JRPG love the DS gets.

What is there really on the PSP...that's great besides the FF games? The games that usually push hardware. Example Crises Core, Dissidia.

Remember the PSP hasn't done as well because of the lack of games for it. More JRPGs are on the way though.

We love it when an article comes out claiming Square does better on your handheld of choice, at the same time sh!t on square for giving other platforms love.

Brave Story, Gurumin, the Monster Hunter games, Phantasy Star Portable, Spectral Souls, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, Kingdom of Paradise, Wildarms XF, Jeanne D'arc, and Disgaea. Those are just the ones I like off the top of my head, there are tons more. ..people just don't look for them for some reason then claim the PSP has no games.

The DS has better RPGs: The World Ends With You, FFXII Relevant Wings, Final Fantasy IV, FFIII, Chrono Trigger, Disgaea, Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest IV, IX, V.

I had a PSP, but it's just a disappointing handheld. It has potential, but the support for it is dead. PSP limps on and on. If the Persona PSP thing is true, then I'll sort of change my mind on the PSP.

1.7 - Homicide your wasting your time....Skerj's list, is laughable list compared to what's on the DS
and I have both Handhelds...

Square is giving PSP some love tho....obviously their games sell the best. I would like to take a look at the sales and reviews of SKERj's list..I've played Gurumin and Jeanne D'Arc.

Hah I don't rely on sales to tell me what's good or not, most of the games I have that I enjoy don't sell that well to the masses (see Okami and God Hand). But if you want to play that game, go check out Monster Hunter on PSP.

I like what I like just as you do, and yes I have a DS and most of the "OMG GOOD RPGS" you guys are touting. But guess what? I don't like a lot of them, because they only interest me for an hour or two and then I go play Castlevania or something. I wanted to like TWEWY more than I do, but Neku is such a f*cking whiny b*tch of a character he nearly ruins the game for me. But I did enjoy some of the other chars, the storyline, and the gameplay was good.

My point is different strokes for different folks, and on the same token there ARE LOTS of RPGS on the PSP and like I said just because you're too lazy to go out and find them doesn't mean they aren't there.

1.9 - Skerj well my point it is, if nobody is buying them games and they are buying mostly Square Titles
then this article is correct. I don't rely on sales either but fanboys tend to use SALES + REVIEWS when it best suits them about what is good or not in the public's eye.

But dude, you just did the same thing. Either way, just like what you like and don't let it be influenced by sales and reviews and that goes to you and anyone else reading this. Final Fantasy has the name and numbers but I've found Megaten games to be superior since like forever, and it will more than likely always be that way for me.

3 - This is why I'm not a fan of fan based articles.
They excluded antire continents and many games to come up with a conclusion that supports their opinion. WHy bother including percentages of games released and then excluded many of these games to draw a conclusion? In order to be accurate, they would need to include all games released on both platforms in all regions they were released. They would also need to factor in development costs and residuals given to each platform holder.

It would be bad enough for this article to be a waste of bandwidth, but it is also misleading and nothing more than flamebait to get PSP owners in an uproar.

It's time for Square Enix to start supporting Sony platforms more. The PSP would probably sell even better if more developers would make great games for it. So release more great PSP games Squre Enix.

Dissidia just came out in Japan, it'll be out for other territories in a few months, and FFXIII Agito and Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday are coming. I'll take PE3B over any FF remake any day.

6 - Yeah but DS games are a lot cheaper to make than PSP games
That's why you see more support. It's not about attach rates, revenue, sales amounts, it's all about the bottom-line: Profit.

Well, let's compare the Final Fantasys...

PSP:
-Final Fantasy Tactics (Lazy port of a great game with added cutscenes still makes a good game)
-Crisis Core (Probably one of the best games I've ever played on a handheld)
-Dissidia: Final Fantasy (Fan service to the extreme)

vs.

DS:
-Final Fantasy III (Interesting game, but it's not really special compared to the others)
-Final Fantasy IV (Didn't buy it. I already own all the older games, and saw no need to buy yet another "enhanced version")
-Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (Great game, but probably didn't sell well because it is still not as mature as the original)
-Revenant Wings (FFXII was not that great so this one didn't really have a reputation to back it up like Crisis Core, and I doubt many PS2 owners rushed out to buy a sequel on a completely different console)
-Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales (While I'm sure it was a great game, the graphics were undoubtedly a turnoff for many.

It's fairly obvious why the PSP titles sell better, the platform just gets the superior games. Though I'm sure many people will challenge this, the PSP also doesn't get as many great games so PSP owners buy just about every great game that comes along.

OMFG, FF games are so super boring these days......
The last cool FF game I played was FF7 and the last one FF12 was super boring, including the battle system that we had to pause and switch armor and weapons every minute... and that was action rpg, LOL.

What I have on all that is that every one is making rpgs games having the last FFs as a model.
Come on, make more rpgs like Disgaea, Eternal Sonata, Valkyria Chronicles.... full motion videos all the time is boring... I want to interact more with the rpgs and FF gaems are not offering it to me anymore.

11 - DS still owns
DS owners have a bigger selection of quality RPG 's. With Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Children of Mana, The World Ends With You, Soma Bringer (Great Japanese Import), and Chrono Trigger (which stops the hell out of anything the PSP has) DS owners just have more quality JRPG's

While I'm late to the party and most of the disagree'ers don't know any better the first post is correct. DS just has the greater supply of amazing RPGs.

While the PSP has some grand RPGs it's nothing close to the list the DS has. Naturally those who sway towards Sony will never take that fact to be true it still is.

Now the next thing is as baum said production cost. The PSP games take more money to make. That should be apparent due to the greater graphics and all that so while the PSP sells more the DS doesn't need to sell that many to still make a good profit.

Second you would have to compare sales of Crisis Core with Dragon Quest IX in order to get a real look at sales because one is FF7 and the other is DQ. You can't say well Crisis Core sold more the The World Ends With You because one is a new IP and the other is what fans of FF7 wanted forever. Then take the remake/port of Tactics to the remake/port of FFIV.

So cost of make vs amount made probably still favors DS and the quality of titles also need to be weighed. While SE has made a good lot of games for DS most have been new IP's or remakes with a new version of a big franchise coming down the road while the PSP has been getting the bigger fan service ones.

PSP owners should still be happy that SE is giving us the bigger named titled but as DS owners we can be happy that they are giving us the new and improved IPs :) but as making RPGs for the DS they have more competition getting the names out there because people buy DS games while more just steal PSP games so the bigger titles need to go to PSP in order to get the sales.

No question about it the DS does have the bigger list of RPGs that are must plays. Once again the PSP has some but not like the DS has and still gets.

13 - Ummm Arent we forgetting
Phantasy Star ZERO for the DS? that game actually has online unlike the Universe portable.I keep seeing Gurumin and Monster, ETC on here and last I checked, those weren't published by square. So why are we talking about them.
The topic states sales of Square Enix titles on both platforms. But if you guys want to talk RPG's across both systems then look at this. The PSP has some great titles..but those are few and far between(that will soon change in 09).
I primarily bought my psp to play such titles and though I have a decent collection on it, that collection pales to the collection of DS role playing games I have to choose from. Basically what im saying is PSP RPG's=Great titles, few to choose DS RPG=A larger selection, more games to choose from.
