Games Sony needs to save the PSP in 2009

VideoGamer.com writes: "The PSP isn't doing too badly when you think about it. Sony entered a handheld market that had been completely dominated by Nintendo for years and managed to take a decent chunk. The problem is that there just aren't enough games. When you think back to all the great PSP games you've played this year, and what's on the horizon, there aren't too many. So, in an attempt to spur Sony and the rest of the video game world into action, we've put together a list of the PSP games that, if they were ever to come to fruition, could save the PSP in 2009."

Since the PsP outselling everything in Japan over and over again means absolutely nothing in terms of the hand held still being a very relevant gaming platform and success for Sony

1.1 - This article is lame
The PSP is doing very nicely thanks very much.

I think the PSP is a great machine and I have so many great games on it I can never decide what to play.

1.2 - Personally
I love my PSP, it helps me kill time and it is great. Having said that I really only play 5 games (FF tactics, hot shot golf 2, crisis core, patapon, castlevania) and wish them made more that interested me. It seems they are heading in that direction with games like Resistance psp, FF dissidia, Agito, but I wouldn't mind seeing more. That or release more ps1 games on the US PSN so I can put them on my psp and play them.

Edit: I didn't state it in my original comment, but I don't think the PSP needs saving, I would just like it to get more games.

What's with all the Sony hate for no reason. DS is good so is the PSP they compliment each other perfectly and I love my PSP because of the multiple functions of the handheld. These sort of articles are just plain FAIL.

At the moment the trend seems to be, if its not outselling its rival then its a flop or is in a desperate struggle for survival.

PSP has sold almost as much as xbox 360 and PS3 combined, so i dont think its in that much trouble.

Just because it doesnt sell as much as the ds doesnt mean it needs saving, same goes for the PS3, and any other product ignorant fanboys like to call flops.

3 - WTF WHY...
Does everyone assume the damn PSP needs saving? Since when (Besides launch) has it been doing so bad that it needs saving? Just because the authors may not have one doesn't make it an accurate assumption that the PSP is uber failng. Articles like this only make ppl lose faith in certain platforms for unwarranted reasons. Maybe they need saving =)

4 - I dunno, PSP does need some love...
Hmm to be fair I would absolutely love to see some of these on the PSP. Also my PSP has been untouched for quite a while now. Waiting for decent new releases has become quite painful. I think the last game I bought was Crisis Core.

4.1 - I agree
I love the PSP, but I haven't bought anything new since GoW (not a fan of the FF series). I'm sitting here looking at Amazon to see if I missed any old games that are good.

Looking at the future release schdule, I don't see anything I like other then Resistance and Samurai Shodown Anthology, for all of 2009. If the rumors are true, maybe Motorstorm.

P.S. They should add trophies to PSP as well.

Whenever Sony came out with the PSP, I don't think that they were trying to compete directly with Nintendo's handheld... even though some older individuals do play the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo DS is mainly targeted towards the younger audience, the PSP is targeted towards a more mature, older audience.

I think the PSP is doing fine and it's doing astronomically well in Japan, but I do agree that there just isn't enough games for the PSP and that's the only reason why I haven't got one yet to complete my Playstation console collection.

There are some times when the PSP barely outsells the PS3 in NPD or when the PS3 outsells the PSP in the U.S. for a month or so, and for the price that the PSP is selling at, I think that it should be selling like 100,000+ units more than the PS3 in NPD numbers, but the lack of games is most likely hurting sales the most.

I'm going to get a PSP eventually because I just MUST play God of War Chains of Olympus before God of War 3, but other than God of War, there's maybe like 3 or 4 other games I want to get for the PSP, but nothing much else. Sony has already proclaimed "2009 is the year of the PSP", so I think that they have a lot in store for the PSP next year.

The PSP needs more new titles and not just a bunch of ports and needs more 3rd party support.... The only 3rd party developer that I think has put a LOT into the PSP already is SquareEnix.

7 - Love my PSP
I'd like to see a portable Persona myself. A remake of Final Fantasy's 7-9 would be nice too. I'm tired of the DS getting all the good RPGs.

Of course, If there was a way to somehow burn PS2 games onto the PSP, I'd be in gaming heaven. Oh well, here's looking forward to PSP2 for that, hopefully.

It'd be better if they released the original games on the PSN aswell as the remakes.

7.2 - The PSN releases irritate me
So many good PS1 games out there that could be on the PSN right now, but man are they really stingy with that back catalog. I'm sure that there are lots of reasons why we don't have all of the PS1 gems on the PSN by now, but its still annoying anyway.

they should just do more rpg's just like the ds.

all the idea;s the mentioned in that article are kinda crappy, including the ff7 remake, the remake should be HD, not portable.

Games other than RPGs/quiz.
The PSP doesn't need saving. For a start it needs more platformers and third person shooters...and Sony SERIOUSLY have to start releasing more, decent PS1 games lets have the classics already...not 'pocket money games' nobody has heard of.

Got nothing to write about today....bashed the PS3 for the last 7 months....I'm up for doing something fresh!

I KNOW! I'll bash the PSP! YA! FOR NO F'N REASON TOO! YA!

I hate gaming media, seriously, the PSP is OWNING right now and has a good list of great games to boot. Much better than the DS for a gaming library imo. This guy needs to stfu.

15 - The PSP is still the best Handheld Gaming Hardware created
but that has also been a negative trying to escape the shadows of it's big brother and create it's own Library of games/Image.

To many Remakes, Rehashes and Spin-Offs though it is getting better, plenty of games in 2009 so no problems there. From what I've learned you do not need the best Hardware to be successful.

Again it always comes down to the games and your demographics/fanbase. I learned that from Nintendo.

PSP is not going anywhere just give it some good games and were good to go. I was gonna update to the latest but that screen issue held me back.

I like PSP. Good thing they ditched UMD movies. Man...what a fail.

But overall I think PSP is doing much better than people have credited it with. It's just not going to be a DS killer, and that shouldn't be their goal.

My major complaint is that they need to make games FOR the PSP, and not just ported TO the PSP. Cutting down controls is bad enough. My favorite PSP games are the ones that are just what they should be: casual and not so demanding. Easy to play. Doesn't require you to reach a checkpoint in order to feel safe about playing on dangerously low power:) Pick up and play.

I have both PSP-2000 and a nintendo DS light and I love both but I use much more my PSP because the percentege of good games for the system is 10 times higher then it is for the DS.

Offcourse I would liek to see more andm ore PSP games but so far so good and I can't complain that much because I dont buy games for either of my portables every month since I also got to buy stuff for my other two console video games.

Maybe some one that ONLY have ONE video game and it is a PSP might be in huge hunger for more games and that person I could understand if he is a bit apreensive.....the reason anyways why I got 2 consoles and 2 portable vgs is that only one is far far away to be enough to stop my hunger.
They don't make vgs like the 16Bit era and before that where we would be super satisfied in terms of great games all the time for either a Nintendo or Sega's vgs.
