GameZone: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 PSP Review

Review by Stephen Woodward:

"With EA's sports franchises, we've all come to expect some basic things from games. Most importantly, we expect an incremental increase in gameplay modes and graphical quality from year to year. Scratch that for Tiger Woods 09 for the PSP.

It's bizarre, but the new Tiger has actually cut modes from the 08 version on PSP."

1 - All true but...
All you say is true. They have cut game modes. And the putting was kind of frustrating at first, although I've actually gotten decent at putting. Certainly not as good as with actually going on a course, but I can usually sink putts. No one can sink *every* putt. Not even in real life. Not even tiger. And those lipouts are wicked, but accurate. There is a reason they have cut game modes. There are 20, count 'em, 20 courses. And joy of joys, seriously, they even included the Stadium course at Scottsdale. There are commentaries for every hole but the first on all 20 courses. Then there is the in game commentary by Kelly and Sam. Wish they had used Feherty, but that's really my only gripe. The ingame commentary also lags a bit, but it's just window dressing. The point here is they only had 1.8 gig to work with on the UMB so they had to leave something out. 20 courses, with flyby commentary, on a PSP is unheard of. They must be using some serious compression. As for the replay value being low, I'd say that that is a matter of opinion. With 20 courses, there is a lot of golf to play. Although, I do admit I miss the shooting gallery from '08. I'd still buy it though. I LOVE TPC Scottsdale. My rating is 8.5 out of 10.
