Insider says PSP 3000 will be able to play games with PS3 controller

Malloc writes:

"A Best Buy insider has tipped us off to say that the new PSP 3000's will include the ability to play games on the PSP using a PS3 controller. And you will also be to use composite cables (480i) to play games on the TV instead of requiring a component 480p. This should be treated as a rumor until confirmed."

What's even the point in that anyway? Seriously. It's not like you'll be playing your PSP from a few feet away or something.

It would be for bringing your PSP to a place with a TV and hooking the PSP up with cables and being able to play at a normal gaming distance.

Kinda stupid if u ask me...completely defeats the purpose of a portable device

This would mean it would have Bluetooth built in since that is what the PS3 controllers use. You most likely could use Bluetooth headsets which would be nice. Adding support for the PS3 controller most likely was something easy to add and not the primary purpose.

With the video-out feature this is Sony's snarky way of giving you you're 2nd analog stick. lol I don't know what to say about this announcement...Innovation ftw???

Many people will find this useful. I know the PSP is about mobile gaming but hey, sometimes people want to experience games that are only found on PSP on a bigger screen. For me, I'd love to play God of War: CoO on my TV.

you mean, the fact that I can go with a PS1/PSP title to my friend house and simply plug my favorite title let's say.... SFA 3 or darkstalkers and plug 2 PS3 controllers and begin to play or plug it into any tv and share the game I'm carrying with my family members a stupid objective? cmon, unless you got no friends, family or even girlfriend don't you got that feeling of share some game with others without the need of carrying a huge console?

sounds great to me, I love games like Joanne d'arc or silent hill origins but I only carry my PSP when I'm traveling, but having the choice to plug my PSP to any tv and play it with a PS3 controller it's not stupid.

being portable doesn't mean it can't be shared, I think it's great.

hmm maybe you guys don't care...but games like PES which utilize a lot is VERY limited in PSP before...now PES can even be more popular in handheld and well i think it definitely means something to some gamers

Not necessarily......the ps3 controller can also be played through cable. So that does not necessarily mean that this psp will have bluetooth.....although it would be somewhat ideal given the push of skype.

I don't think they make Mini B to Mini B cables that would be requried to connect a PS3 controller to a PSP. At least I've never seen one.

If you can use a Dual Shock 3 with the PSP then I am sold. That would truly make it a Portable Playstation since you can send video out to tv and a controller. Awesome if true.

If it has that feature I'll buy one too. I still have a first generation PSP and for most games the controls are okay but sometimes a regular controller would make it easier to get past certain areas. You end up giving up on the game because it's too complicated. If I could use my PS3 controller for that problem it would be great.

I agree with Sonarus. If it's like what Xavier_X said, then it seems kinda stupid, to me. It doesn't and wouldn't feel like a portable device, imo.
But, I guess it would be nice, just to have. It would come in handy if you're traveling with friends or family, though.

Very interesting, but that does not warrant an impulse buy for me. We don't know anything about compatibility issues. It could be that some games won't be compatible. Anyway, your money is best spent on software for now. There is so much coming and also so many already here like Crush which is a little gem that was totally ignored. For shame.

2 things needed: dual analogue and better game

if i wanted to play old ps2 games on a tv i'll just buy a ps2 or ps3.
stop cramming unneeded things in it, if they could just take that out and make the psp 3000 thinner then that would be better.

9 - It's brilliant and stupid.
Stupid in that it won't benefit PSP games. Brilliant in that if coupled with Remote Play, we'll be able to play our PS3 games away from home. Simply plug the Dual Shock into our PSPs (hopefully with a stand to hold it up) and play away.

Those of you who said it was stupid idea have to realize that AT LEAST it gives you that option. I can already imagine modders some how integrating the components of the PS3 controller into the PSP to make it more portable.

13 - Firmware update
USB cable from dualshock to USB on top of psp. They already have a camera and a gps receiver that plug into that. They most defiantly did not put bluetooth in this device, because if they did that they would not have built a mic into the system. It would be pointless to do that when you could just use a bluetooth headset. So, I predict this feature could very well be put out through a future firmware update, probably around the same time as the release of the system, or, knowing Sony, about 2 months after the release of the system. The whole time they will be telling people "its coming soon, we PROMISE.."

my main problem with the psp is the analog stick and the whole system doesn't fit well into my hands .. my thumbs hurt after playing an hour or so.

so playing psp games with a ps3 pad sounds nice. we'll see - maybe i buy a psp 3000 then.

16.1 - Wrong system.
Sony only says that for their home consoles, never about the PSP. Handheld devices live in a completely different world. Gameboys, for example, typically go through several model upgrades throughout their lifespan, or even completely redesigns. Like when the Gameboy Advance evolved into the SP series.

17 - A step towards full PS3 remote play
Think about it - on road trips all you have to do is bring your DS3 and your PSP and now you can play your PS3 anywhere due to remote play. And with video out, you can play it on a big screen HDTV too! So let's see I pack my PS3 and DS3, check into my hotel, hook my PSP up to the tv in my hotel room and bam - Now I can play my PS3 in the hotel - without having to carry it with me. Genius.

18 - This is a rumor from a Best Buy insider?
Ok, moving right along...

Even if it was true, it's not something that would persuade me to buy another PSP. I have two already and never touch my original one anymore. My PSP2000 works great for what I need it for. Everything else I do on my iPod Touch.

That's the point, if you own a PS3 and PSP and you prefer to use a controller and play on your tv then playing God of War Chains of Olympus might be more enjoyable using a DS3. It's good to have that option because everyone knows two sticks are better than one. You can still play it without it while your away but with the controller would be a cool option.

This is good would it need bluetooth to do this or a firmware update would suffice. If it needs additional hardware to do this then I have to get yet another PSP this is my fourth one but I love this system so versatile.

22 - Remote Play? COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too was a sucker for this feature thinking it would would great. Now i cant imagine remote play would work any better with a controller. Have you guys ever played Bionic Commando thru remote play? The truth is that the only kind of games that would work well with remote play are turned based games like rpgs or card games. All in all there is way too much lag for anything else to work. Since the PSP doesnt do any kind of processing, you are pretty much sending a video over the internet to your screen, which = lag!!!!!

25 - I've always wanted this
Ever since I got FFT: war of the lions. I wanted to play it on my tv, but in order to do so you have to sit close b/c of the length of the tv connection. I thought it would be a good idea to have it so that you could play your psp on the tv from a distance by using a psp controller or something like that. So the ability to sit my psp by the tv while i sit on my couch and play FFT with a ps3 controller on a big screen solves my problem.

26 - Am I missing something here?
There has been no announcement of bluetooth in this thing. That means you will still be tethered to it by a USB cable more then likely, if this rumor is indeed true. So unless you have a really long USB cable, your psp will still be in your lap, or something like that.

The real purpose of the psp 3000 is to try to stop team M33 and the pandora battery altogether. This is also why they are stopping production on the psp slim. Use your heads here people. That is the only thing that would make sense. Why else would Sony do this when the psp slim has not even been out a year yet? A built in mic? How many games even support voice chat on the psp? Not enough for them to make it a built in feature. A brighter screen is not really enough reason alone to produce a new model.

Sony is trying to combat custom firmware with the only way it can. They have to do a total hardware re-vision.
