TVersity Launches Version 1.0 of Media Streaming Service

After a long time in a very functional beta (initially released in May 2005!), our friends at TVersity has launched Version 1.0 of their media streaming solution and it is currently available for download.

The software will allow you to stream your own videos, music, and photos to a large number of gaming consoles and devices including the Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PSP, Microsoft Xbox 360, BlackBerry (OS V4.3 or higher), and even the iPhone.

TVersity also supports streaming media from the internet including podcasts and YouTube videos. This includes all of G4's podcasts, which you can watch on your PS3 or 360 through TVersity.

This works well on my PS3, it depends a lot on how you initially set everything up on your CPU. Sometimes it gives me error messages, and then plays the file. It's a weird process sometimes, but almost all of my video library (600 gig) has worked so far. South Park seasons tend to have a little trouble as well.

to date this is the best media server around (medialink is the way to go for macs)

tversity does a good job managing my streams from internal pc hard drive and external hard drive as well as my youtube videos.

i watch charlie rose, g4tv shows, the onion news, bloombergtv, cnn and other shows on my ps3 via tversity via youtube and other rss links

tweaking it to your network bandwidth and screen resolution is key.

Thanks for the tip. I setup a UPNP server on my Linux machine manually, but it's a pain in the @ss to manage. I'll check out MediaTomb for sure.

4 - I love TVersity
Only problem I find is that it doesn't instantly appear on my XMB, unless I hit "restart sharing" on the server side.

Other servers like Azureus and Windows MediaPlayer show up just fine...instantly.

Regardless: Long Live TVersity!!!

4.1 - UPDATE
Woo hoo!!!...the long-experienced dreadful problem aforementioned above is now fixed with this new version!!!

Apparently it was a Vista issue (waht's new).

For those of you in the same boat I was, be sure to pay special attention to the Installation Wizard and be sure that "Disable SSDP" is checked.

Note: You won't be able to use WMP as a server, but...WHO CARES, because you've got TVersity!!!!

(In the remote case you do, you always have the option to re-enable via the 'TVersity Configuration Menu' found in Start > Programs.)

Man, this is by far, the best, most useful N4G news for me in a loooong time!

yea, that happened to me. i thought that it was a Wifi issue since my PS3 is going wireless, but yesterday, i downgraded my machine back to vista, installed the RC1 from Tversity, and wow, what a difference, man vista sucks so much.

Yeah, I thought my problem was my router because it's not uPNP. (it's one of those modem/router combos from my isp, so I have no choice.)

If it makes you feel better, I'm one of those suckers who actually paid for Vista...although only CN$40.

But I can't fathom how much it's costed me in wasted time and hardware/software compatibility issues.

F'ckn Microshaft!!!
