and this proves it. The previous week the gap was about 45K. This week is its 19K. This is just taking into account the release of DMC4 only. Glad to see the PS3 version of DMC4 outsell the x360 version.

Edit: Ok i see your point. Your point is the x360 sold lower than expected last week so this week's jump is just the x360 numbers going back up to where it normally sells in NA and not so much the impact o DMC4?. I see your logic but it could be both you know.

Another week that teh little Xbox fanboy, ioi, at vgchartz massaged his made up numbers to once magically keep worldwide sales 'neck and neck' between the PS3 and 360.

Another week that the little Xbox fanboy, ioi, at vgchartz went on a tempertantrum slashing PS3 worldwide sales figures and bumping up 360 numbers as the PS3 worldwide sales numbers continue to grow and grow

How many news stories have to come out showing what a complete joke the site is?

Let's put it into perspective just how far out in Xbox fantasyland vgchartz is just from today's news. They were, shockingly!, underreporting PS3 sales in the UK by some 150k. Just that one European country that anyone who was serious about getting reliable and up to date data could have easily just have subscribed to CharTrack.

Even now when faced with real UK numbers the Xbox fanboys at vgchartz are in a frenzy doing damage control. It looks like their answer to the real UK numbers was to simply average their own Xbox fantasyland numbers and the real numbers. Pathetic.

It's time for this site to go away. It has no place in any serious console market discussion - no matter how much Xbox fans are hearted by the site's made up numbers.

Just because a SCE-UK has released numbers that prove VGC is wrong doesn't mean the same thing wouldn't happen to 360 numbers if a better tracking system was in place for the 360 overseas. ChartTrack needs to show what they've revealed lol

There is no weekly tracking. It's just some kids making numbers up.

The problem is the guy who run the site is an Xbox fanboy. He has been long since banned for putting out bogus number on forums all over the Net.

His game is this:

* Inflate 360 numbers in every area where there is the least amount of public data - usually European countries

* Inflate 360 numbers in every estimate since there is nothing to contradict the bogus numbers. Gives the 360 lots of free press with news items like this one so you get a constant stream good sales news for the 360 that is only briefly interrupted once a month by the real sales data

* Constantly tweak the worldwide sales numbers - PS3 down, 360 up - as far as he thinks he can get away with and still leave a margin of plausibility. These usually happen as the PS3 approaches some milestone and suddenly the little punk goes on a tempertantrum and the PS3 mysteriously has a few hundred thousand less sales worldwide.

In the end it won't matter one bit other than a whole bunch of people will end up writing all sorts of 'wow, didn't know the PS3 was doing so well' or 'wow, Sony really turned sales around' comments and stories because they waste their time reading some little Xbox fanboys fantasyland sales numbers.

When did this happen? Before, the 360 hardcores used to resort to VG for insane inflation of numbers... now the PS3 users do? I don't really think that is the case. Besides, correct me if I am wrong... but doesn't this site have a profound reputation of having inflated 360 hardware numbers and underrated PS3 hardware figures?

I never liked the site and I know a ridiculous amount of the Playstation hardcores didn't and still don't as well. I do agree that it is a bad reference, but also it is one that at least gives some insight into how things are looking for the industry (and its subdivisions). As long as people don't take it as exact then it's fine.

Hey, it's better than a horde of analysts at least.

Well, according to the latest VG chartz, UK all of a sudden shows PS3 ahead of 360. That was not the case 2 days ago.

But anyhow, everybody knows, that VGCharts are no serious numbers, but they show trends at least. And that's fun to talk about, isn't it?

BTW, to the original poster. Japanese DMC4 numbers are not yet included. Expect the gap to grow.

Well - I can't dispute that the wii continues to dominate sales.

But sales have never been and indicator of quality mechandise to me. If it were, then I'd have to acknowledge 'take that' to be a musically talented band because of the amount of records they sell, rather than the lame well marketed bunch of talentless geeks they actually are.

Take a motoring example: A car like a Fiat Panda will sell 1000's of times more units each year than a ferrari, but as a driver, its the farrari thats the real deal!
That the Wii continues to blindly sell to grandma's kids and girls who have never played a game before is to applauded, but it still fails to stisfy any real gamer I have ever met. I applaud their ability to create a new market and make a forune, but for me, the format has been a dismal failure - and no figures will ever change that.

The Wii does continously do well and I think people are way to focused on saying its just parents that ar buying it.

Thats BS I agree that the young and the old are contributing to it being so hard to find, but gamers are picking it up as more and mroe better games are coming to it.

Smash is gonna be a success as is wii fit that much you can state as fact. Though more and mroe 3rd parties are getting decent to good games out for it. Lets leave out the blantent shovelware, because all of a sudden its the big thing now that its not the ps2?

I for one am looking forward to Okami and anyone thats like its another port well no one bought the game the last time, I look forward to owning this game especially at the $30 tag. Its stupid let it go oh the 360 dies, the wii is for kids, wii has no good games, the ps3 is a flop, the ps3 has no good games, the wii has sh!t graphics so on and so forth. I don't see why u arguing. You should be very happy with those numbers if they came out to be close to the real ones. Do u really think 360 is gonna sell better than PS3 on WW basis.. the whole xbox franchises life time is small relative to the Playstaion, and therefore has lower brand recognition, add to that all the hardware issues xbox has and the lack of an integrated HD disc player.
Personally I believe xbox 360 numbers are inflated and Ps3 numbers are downsized, and the margin is around 60-80 thousand units not only 22 thousand or so.

This sounds harsh, and it is to all those Nintendo followers, but I am serious when I say, the Wii has become one of the playground fads. Like having a Furby, or Pokemon. Admittedly if it lasts as long as Pokemon then it truly was worthwhile, but I cannot see the Wii lasting long.

I think the fighting continues between 360 and PS3, because Wii is in a league of it's own, having opened up the market, to mainstream entertainment. Lots of sales, but also moves VERY fast. Much faster than the gaming market. People who say it's got no real games are ignorant, but the games are definitely aimed at this mainstream demographic. Which is what forces me further to believe it's a fad. This market they have opened up is something new to consoles, and it won't be accessed economically, until the public are more open to games. But the Wii IS most definitely heroic in opening peoples eyes to gaming. And everyone who enjoys gaming should thank the Wii for that. It'll give the market a hgiher saturation point next generation and even add to the saturation this generation.

Anyway, lets see how the Wii does, I am not putting too much faith in it, because I expect the 360 and PS3 to go on for about only 6 years (with Microsoft pushing for the next generation) and by then I doubt Wii will be so popular, and yet PS3 and 360 will still be selling. Maybe one of those consoles might become obsolete. 6 months ago it looked the PS3 might do that, but now, it's looking like the 360 might have less luck in the future. Let's all wait a while.

:) My comment up there was meant as a joke, but we know that, right. I agree with the comment above me. And I have absolutely no problem with Wii's success. As long as there is a market for PS3/360 and studios all of a sudden do not try to copy Wii games for PS3/360, this is fine with me. Or say, even if they do, as long as there is a portfolio of maturer (don't know if that's the right word) styled games available, I don't mind at all. I would start to worry, though, if all of a sudden all games would become mainstream titles to compete against the Wii demographic.

Yes. But do you seriously believe the rate will be like this for the next 7 years?. What do you think will happen to the rate when MGS,GT and FF drops?. How about when the majority of the DVD base migrate to Blu and realise that the PS3 is also the best and cheapest Blu ray player?. How about when the majority of the PS2 owners migrate?. The rate will change. As it stands. It will change more to favour the PS3. I would like to hear what you think MS has.

Talkign of when the market moves to Blu-Ray. It is stupid to assuem the future for the PS3 is completely peachy. 2009 sounds quiet at the moment, and in addition to that, when the market has transitioned to Blu-Ray, it would be naive to believe that the PS3 will be consistently the cheapest Blu-Ray player. It will porabably stay the cheapest media hub, featuring Blu-Ray.

I wasn't referring to just this year(2008).For 2009 PS will see FF and GOW and ICO even. All extremely high profile games to the PS crowd. 2009 should also see a slim PS3 if not 2010. From this year onwards. We should see sequels of new PS IPS like Uncharted,HS,Resistance as well as proven PS franchise and other high profile new ip's which there many being release up until the end of the PS3 console cycle.

Regarding HD. People started to migrating in mass to HD last year. This year should see more people migrate to HD TV's and they will need a HD player to go with it. PS3 is not only a gaming console but its also one of the best if not the best Blu-ray player as well. It is without a doubt that the PS3 will lower its price to 299 this year. Its just a question of when. The PS3 should be one of the cheapest if not the cheapest blu-ray player this year which should make it a very very attractive package to those that not only love great gaming but also great movies.

I don't think most PS3 fans have believed vgchartz still isn't biast, even in the last few 'victorious' months (me included).

In my opinion the only thing vgchartz is good for is the long term general trends, in terms of consoles popularity increasing or decreasing. This doesn't mean it's correct for the specific sales ratios of the consoles in relation to each other.
