Blu-ray to PSP Movie Transfer: Pictures

Back at CES, Sony demonstrated a feature which is due this year which will allow users to copy movies onto the PSP from Blu-ray discs in their PS3. They of course will be copy-protected and be 'PSP optimized'. It's said to take 3-5 minutes to complete the operation. The files will be around 1GB in size so you may want to increase the size of your memory stick. New memory sticks coming out in March by Sony are now as big as 16GB with 32GB due next year. Below are 5 pictures of the new feature unseen on N4G.

5 - Sony needs to inject the market with adrenaline

And that would only happen if memory prices were reduced signifficantly. Here in Sweden, a Memory Stick Duo will set you back about $150, which is alot to pony up for something like this.

This feature however is really cool, and I have alot of movies I'd like to take with me when I travel, but if that is going to be a viable option memory prices need to drop.

I'm not saying they should give memory sticks away, but at least reduce the price, start some sort of campain or something, anything!

Thank god for that! UMDs are horrible, expensive and the casing is so broken easily. I can't wait for this! Now they just need to do this for games as well and they'll be set.

You can play a high def movie on your PS3. And then for FREE, you can watch that movie (in standard def) anywhere you like on your PSP.

They could have made the feature for DVD too but they want people to start buying Blu-ray over DVD or VOD.

All they need to do now is release all games simultaneously on the PS Store as at retails and UMD will be obsolete.

7.3 - heres whats goin on...

MasterChief2829, the PS3 is a blu-ray enabled machine (obviously) and since so many people are now buying blu-ray movies, they just wanted to add a usefull feature for the PSP (Since now it has so much to do with PS3 connectivity). So the point is just basically instead of ONLY being able to watch blu-ray movies on the PS3 or any Blu-ray player in ur house, now u can easily copy them to the PSP and watch em wherever you go. Plus it's a better alternative to illegally cracking movie discs and copying the files or illegally downloading them, and now you don't really have to bother with UMD's either.

Im pretty sure the down conversion to psp will be much crappier, they should put that feature for dvd also .

Sony did this with the Resident Evil: Extinction DVD, it's called a "portable digital copy." PS3 isn't re-encoding PSP content from the HD content in 3-5 minutes, it's just copying a "portable digital copy" from the Blu-ray disc to the PSP. Problem here is that including a "portable digital copy" is optional & of absolutely no value to any studio not owned by Sony.

That's probably a way to avoid copyright issues, hah? Encoding the full BD movie is actually ripping it, no? But its pretty useless if the BD doesn't contain the mobile version.

which is where i spend most of my time...lol it shouldn't cost much to add to the disk. It is an added feature. Studios are always lookin for added content to make their disk more desirable. It seems like a easy a cheap way to do this.

I can see them adding PS3 themes or even game demos on Blu-Ray movies as well.

I'd love to see soundtracks bundled on the Blu-Ray.
