2.1 - There was that one day...

I had trouble on one day and that was only a few days ago. Even then I was able to find a match, it just took a little longer than normal. As for the service goes, it was the the fact that the PSN was up and running that I traded my copy of COD4 for the 360 in for the PS3 version. At least there is no fee to play a great game like this on the PS3.

You aren't missing anything. I got to the rank of Major General II and realized it was all 30 seconds of life and no skill. I went back to SOCOM and haven't played COD4 since.

I think for once mesh speaks the truth. Usually I dismiss every one of his comments but COD4 online for the PS3 is nothing short of a joke. All you have to do is look at the PS3 forum at infinityward.com and you'll see hundreds of people almost ready to shoot one another over the problems.

Ok so your saying over a million and a half are playing COD4? And Sony admitted to having only 3 million users on PSN and your saying half of them are playing COD4? 13.3 - The number of actual COD owners that play online is unknown.

My friend just started out at rank 700,000 (ish) when he tried the online component for the first time, so I'd say about half are actually online. Makes sense since Broadband is only in half U.S. households.

This is an Activision problem, not a PSN problem. My other games like Motorstorm and Warhawk have been running without a hitch, and login is still instantaneous. Before Firmware 2.00 though, login to PSN took FOREVER. I'm glad they got rid of that annoying little problem.

The only problem that I am having and I think it same for other people is that it take too long to find a server.. that is the only problem and nothing else... I didn't have this problem in the begining but after a month or two it startet taking longer time find a server..

I haven't had any REALLY troublesome....troubles. It's just that for the last week it's been kinda tough to get into games-IT NON-STOP TRIES TO MAKE YOU HOST I DO NOT WANT TO FREAKING HOST IT NEVER PANS OUT FOR ME. The one time in the last week I bothered trying to host me and like 3 other guys where waiting for just one more person but they never came, two guys left and I ended up talking about random things for like a half an hour with the one left. Did you know theres a guy with a 400+ kill streak on those leaderboards? Just as bad as the other hackers in the accuracy leaderboards......So yeah.

16.1 - The only time I ever recieved the "Downloading Game Settings" error lately...

happened when I turn off my PS3 while I was logged into a game. The problem seemed to go away after I just went into the single player mode and finished a level and allowed it to save to my HDD. It never happened again after that.

Yea xbox live has been down for a week now but theres sporadic games of cod4 now and then and the wait isnt that long...lets see ..there was a story a day about xbox live being down...I bet this will be the only story and ps3 droids will move onto other things to deny.

The thing I don't like about MP on this game is not being able to see the games that are running. It would be great to scroll through the games and choose which one to join, like I can in the PC games I play (eg. Novaworlds Joint Operations)

I'm fairly new to the PS3 and wonder if all the MP games are like this?

It's all about TrueSkill matchmaking these days!!

Seriously... You'll find the 360 online experience never lets you anywhere near a server as it handles everything for you.

The PS3 seems more divided. For example in WarHawk you can browse the server lists and jump in (like most PC games) - but others such as CoD4 handle things for you.

I suspect in the future Sony will ensure developers move towards a more seamless idea like the 360 Live.

I prefer the game to handle things rather than scroll through servers/games so I guess it's just personal preference.

no, not all PS3 games are like this. COD4 online matchmaking is pretty crap to be honest. You can't apply any filters other than the game type you want to play.

Warhawk gives you a full server listing, showing you how many people are in a game, its ping and what map is running.

Unreal Tournament 3 is the same.

COD4 really needs improvements in the online section to choose what host you'd like to join or what map you want to play on. Instead it's just completely random
