"On an unrelated note, N'Gai, maybe you can comment on the holiday software sales for the Xbox360 and the PS3. In particular, I have seen COD4 on sale for $38 no fewer than five different times between Thanksgiving and New Year's (Circuit City, Best Buy, Target included)...I thought this GOTY [Game of the Year] was selling well--if so, do you think that is related to the numerous sales? Or has it been holding its own at $60?"

I wonder what would have happened if all games were $40 or $30? The sales could have been much better and things would have been much easier for consumers. Of course I could be wrong but still, one can wish :)

I think most games should be in the 40-50 dollars range. I think they'll sell more and therefore generate same profit, if not more. The gaming community is growing faster than some of the publishers out there are thinking. Lowering the prices on those games will definitely be for the most good.
I personally don't play online, even though I have cable internet. Therefore, COD4 was a great rent for me, It wasn't worth the 60 dollars as its only around 5-6 hours of game play. The only games I buy are sport games and GTA and like games... Also, GOW games (no matter how long/short they are).

I wouldve had both Oblivion, Uncharted and Heavenly sword if 40$ was the pricing here in sweden. THat's dirt cheap compared to the 100$ I have to pay here to get Uncharted. Can't afford it atm, and that really sucks.

COD4 was on sale, for a week, here in the UK just before Xmas too. Gamestation were doing it half price for £24.99 (rrp £49.99).

went in there for a quick look as I was waiting for someone and seen it on the shelves so snapped it up straight away, the next day I went back the shelf was empty. Damn good bargain

that's because you can only play half the game. "game experience may change during online play" - yeah, I can play it offline, but I can't get online or find a game or get an answer as to when this crap is going to be fixed. GOTY and they're using 3 commodore 64's for servers. Brilliant.

It sold over a million before it went on sale that covered cost so now its just profit so they can sell it cheaper plus more people will pick it up for 40 than 60. I picked it up and AC for $80 from best buy the day before christmas.

7 - It's still 60 Euro's here in Europe.

But yeah, us Europeans don't mind paying more and waiting longer.[/sarcasm]

Though, I did only pay 50 Euro's for Halo 3 retail on launch day. I don't know why, but that was pretty sweet.

Also, I wanted to get COD4 for the 360 today and it's sold out everywhere. I'll probably have to go to a bigger city to find it. It's really popular it seems. I wonder what the sales are for 360 alone?!

I didn't buy it for one reason... too short of a single player game. I rented it, finished it in a day, and returned it.

It was neat, but not worth 60 bucks and had no replay value to me in the offline mode. In my case I just don't have time right now to play online.

I wonder how many other people thought the same thing.

8.1 - I did initially.

I never played online that much anymore, but as of late I've gotten in to them again. I didn't get COD 4 at the time exactly because it's just not worth paying 60 Euro's for a 5 hours campaign, it's just not done.

With MP, this all changes. It sucks I agree. SP should not have to suffer because of this but it does.

It annoys the hell out of me that SP is taking a backseat over MP even though I am into MP now myself. There's nothing like playing a fantastic SP adventure on your own with a bag of crisps and some beer.

Not saying there's no room for MP, obviously. But as of late it's like the SP is just a tacked-on additional mode just for the hell of it. And that's just wrong.

Especially if your looking for replay value in 5 or 6 years. I still pick up my ps1 and ps2 games and play them from time to time. If there's noone else doing this, it makes multiplayer pretty useless without a good single player along with.

10 - Yea I seen this too

I've seen this at many stores. When I bought my Elite, I bought CoD4 with it, but spent the whole 2 days just playing demos and arcade games (figures). The next day I saw a Circuit City ad that had it for $39. I called and they were completely sold out, but luckily Walmart pricematches and I got it there. I then traded in my original CoD4 for Halo 3.

Which on topic, I've also seen Halo 3 for $38 at a few places as well. So I don't think this is so much a stab at 1 company... but they are just selling so well they can afford to lower the prices. I would imagine it is a marketing ploy from MS to lower the prices on the hottest games to swing the market in their favor somewhat.

Regardless its a Win/Win. I think all games should be $40-$50 price range.
