I was one of those people that didn't play the game with an open mind. I went into the game expecting just another game, but i was really disappointed. I didn't play the game for like a month. So I decided to give the game another chance, and found it to be really fun.

Agreed. A decent review even though I think 7 is a bit too high (But believe 4s of IGN and GameSpot were too low and unfair.)

Right now, Lair looks good with a decent story but the controls become really annoying speciall in those escort missions. It is fun and beautiful but could have been great, really fun and beautiful. Let's cross our fingers for Lair 2 with all of the current problems being fixed in it.

I love this game! The graphics are damn near the best I've ever seen... More so given the scope of the game. It is huge! The levels are massive and the draw distance is incredible. The texture work is second to none... The gameplay, for me, was spot on. I'd not have it any other way and I'm so glad I didn't listen to all these idiot naysayers... I bought the game and loved it and still love it. I just went back thru it 2 weeks ago and go more gold medals. It's a brilliant, misunderstood, master piece.

All I can say. If you go into Lair with expectations of wanting something different, you'll be super impressed. If you go into it wanting the best next gen game of all time... you'll be upset. It's a different game and it has a different approach. I think Lair will be a game that so many people passed up but a few, lucky enough and smart enough to buy it and enjoy it, will know what it was all about.

Lair is a solid game. 8.5 game, easily!

See, that's where you're wrong... I genuinly love this game. You obviously haven't played it. Everything I said, from graphics to gameplay is spot on. 1080P and Lair on a Bravia or Ambilight tv shows you how impressive the ps3 is over the competition. Simple as that.

I'd bet a thousand bucks right now neither of you two have even played this game and if you did it was for about 2 minutes at Games R Us.

Hater, they honestly have nothing better to do. All their games have been and gone already and all thats left that gives them pleasure is rubbishing PS3. Remember when they used to say wait til Bioshock, Halo and Mass Effect come out. Then it was wait for Halo and Mass Effect. Then just ME. There big guns for the all console lifecycle have fired and sure they sold, cos they buy everything but the excitement died on each one after a week. People were all about Halo 2 for ages after it came out. M$'s "Perfect storm" has been and gone and no one even talks about them any more. All they talk about is PS3. They're really sad.

But the game's lock on system feels broken in the later levels. Also, what's up with shaking the controller up and down on everything?

Plus, the game never gives you any freedom. It makes you complete a handful of the same chore like objectives over and over with no pause in between.

I still bought and beat it, but I don't feel compelled to go back to it anytime soon unless the developers release a patch that addresses a majority of the games problems: tearing, pop-in, analog controls, tighten the lock-on system.

It flopped, it sucked, it failed, and it bombed!

An average of 54% with horrible sales. It must be pretty sad in Sony's gaming library if ps3 owners actually love this game.

Soild but definelty not great. I bought and beat the game but it wasn't always pleasurable. I liked the story and some of the boss battles but the controls and the pacing were all wrong. Everyone should at least give it a try, it wasn't as bad as its been made out to be.

People can go into that same mind state for any game, It's hard to go into that kind of mind state when the game Lair was hyped to be AAA. The same mind state that most people should have when they play Mass Effect, but they hear about Dumb A.I, Frame rates, and other issues, and never try it because, in their hearts they want a certain company to fail and the other to be on top, sound failure? I've never played Lair, so I can't give you my opinion on it. However, what this article is trying to say in a nut shell is. The game didn't reach the masses, and for a game to be this hyped up, this game should have blew away the comp. I've asked Sony fans to try Mass Effect, and they go "why? So, I can play a game where it's this and that, I don't understand why the game gets a 10, I don't like the controls. However, if it gets a six, Sony fans will laugh, and still not try it. It's cool to defend a game, but hard core Sony fans and Xbox fans don't have an open mind, they go into the game not liking it to start, and all it takes is one sh%^ty review to justify why people won't try a game. Go in with an open mind?
Yeah, ok. This is only going to happen when Bias minds are set to neutral, and they are not because here we are months after Lair is here, and Fans are still trying to defend it and shoot it down, just let it go.

12 - Ok now with my personal review of the game.

I feel Lair was great personally for the time it came around really.
The controls well it is the only downfall i believe. They should have made it where you can either use the Sixaxis or The Analog way.
This being said i believe once you master the controls you will enjoy it a lot. I think its also nice to see Sony trying new things and leading the way on them aswell.

That's the problem, the controls can't be over looked, and this isn't anything new, Sega did this years ago except they didn't have a motion controller. So, something new is out the window, Graphics are amazing, but so what? A game should be a perfect balance of controls, graphics, fun factor, and sound. If 80- 90 percent of the people have a problem with controls, then Lair two should address this problem and make up for the loss. Let's not turn a blind eye. This game, appears to have more short comings then positive, add that with the hype and the Sony fans saying this game will start the wave to shift the console war, sprinkle a little controls and you have disappointment. The game didn't deliver, lets get over it and press on toward the future. I can defend a game here till kingdom come, but will it sell the game?

If you wanna to like this game, you need to spend some time, it`s not pop corn game, that`s why for some people it won`t work.
Though, i wish it would be delayed a little, to not have some frame rate issues. Then this game would really be OMG, for those who appreciate the art.

Lair might have had a chance if it was developed on the Xbox 360, which would have allowed more time for the game to be polished and actually be half decent.

except it's the same when there is a xbox360 review. I've seen more PS3 fans that have never played Mass effect, putting in there own opinions about how the game was, yet never played it. But that's for that thread. Like I said earlier. Lair lacked something if a lot of reviews gave it a low score for a very high hyped game then there is a problem. Hell, I learned from my mistake, Dead rising was a good game, but the controls were something to die for, and some of the missions were corny, oh and the fact that you have to start over from the beginning after doing a lot of things was simply unacceptable. People, let this game go.

21 - What is wrong with Lair?

I have Lair. The graphics is amazingly good. The number of enemies on screen is amazing. So why the bad scores - and even more - why am I so irritated with the game - even though I have a PS3 and about 13 PS3 games now?

First of - there is very little wrong with the gameplay. Sometimes it is actually some of the best gameplay that I have seen. Just that the developers seems to think it is all too good for you to enjoy. They do this by forcing you into an extremely linear and scripted gameplay. I mean - ever been in a dogfight and combat scene that turned out to be scripted? You just get into the hang of the scene - and WHAMM!!! cutscene - thinking that now that you have killed 4 enemies - you should now be shifted to another goal. So you just start to enjoy the gameplay when WHAMM!! cutscene - ok - you killed the other two - so now you must focus on this specific type of enemy. So OK, you take it and kill three or four of them and is just about to enjoy it when WHAMM! cutscene - OK now you must take out this other thingie - or do this other..... Heyy!!!!! Who the F.ck is playing the game? Me or the narrator? Leave me alone - I desperately want to play the game I bought - I want to decide who and what I want to kill when I want to kill it.

And this... me... a huge Sony and PS2 and PS3 fan... am so irritated by this game that I can puke. This game has as I said - some of the most amazing visuals, some of the really great gameplay that I have seen - but it just does not allow you to play it without being interrupted within 5 minutes. So for potential I would give this game a 9. Yes a 9. It is actually that good. But in reality.. because the devs does not seem to realize that I bought the game because ermm I, and I mean I, actually want to play the game - not be shoved around what they think should be the strategy I should take during the battle. In my book - the score is 3.5
