NPD Fallout: Did Ratchet Actually Sell Just Fine?

The Ratchet & Clank series has never been about breaking sales records as it has been about being a consistent seller. And while Tools of Destruction's inability to break out in October is noteworthy, it ultimately says more about the PS3 as a platform. R&C is sitting at over 200,000 in sales right now world wide. The actual release date for this game in October was the 30th, they cannot count 2 days of sales and call it a month. It's absurd. More over, if you check the ales data of previous R&C games all have sold a million +, yet... only sold 120,000 in each of their 1st months outtings. R&C sold 200,000 in it's 1st "actual" month out... more, cause it hasn't been out a month yet. they did this on a considerably less installbase than the ps2. R&CFTDO will sell a million copies... no question.

Also, of mention... R&C is a pack in deal "i believe" in the U.K. and Austraila... Those aren't counted up, either. We don't know how much it's sold outside of the American NPD and simexchange charts, which lsit is at over 200,000 right now. The numbers for other regions haven't come in. Keep in mind, it just got released last week in Japan and U.K.

Ratchet was released at the end of the last week of October. Honestly, this is just stupid. I would say 75k sales in 4 days is not terribly horrible.

6 - this is going to be an issue with ps3, wii, AND 360

360, i believe, will be king of software sales because of its year headstart.

games for 360 sold BUTT-TONS because they had no competition. Lost PLanet on its own merits shouldn't have sold 100k+, but it easily broke a million in a string of hit after hit for the 360.

now that all 3 consoles are out, income of gamers are split.

ace combat 6 did well on 360, but had it released earlier, would have also broken a million easily.

what we will see from now on is only HELLA BIG NAME series like MGS4, FF, KILLZONE, DMC, NINJA GAIDEN, SPORTS TITLE breaking a Mill since all 3 consoles are par in certain aspects (wii hardware, 360 software, ps3 overall package)

That is the truth. Ratchet doesn't have the explosive selling power of a Halo 3, but like Resistance, it will consistently sell throughout the year and eventually hit one million copies.

RFOM sold 2 mill...

R&C..will sell consistenty weekly...it's a known franchise so more PS3 owners *new* will probaly pick it up along the way

RFOM2 will do better numbers..Insomniac seems quite fine to me

Not sure about the sales, but this is the best game of its genre ive played in years upon years. It has it all imo. Graphics, Gameplay, story, replay value. I couldnt help thinking while playing it that this is todays version of super mario bros of the NES days. Just a fantastic and fun game.

I think the idea here is that R&C will sell consoles, not the other way around. Insomniac will be getting a nice chunk of change from Sony either way. So long as it helps get a few more PS3's into peoples hands, it's done its job.

15 - They put the Ratchet Demo on all PS3 kiosks

along with Heavenly Sword, Fifa 08, Dirt, Virtua Fighter, Armored Core, and some other neat demos. It's hard for people NOT to get exposed to this great title.

Last I heard it was selling amazingly well, and it deserves to. =]

The problem is that the ps3 doesn't have a system seller. No game in its first year has proven to be that one big hit. The ps3's big guns has failed and it looks like the only thing that can save it is MGS, GT, or FF.

I honestly don't care about sales figures, I bought the game on UK launch day and am loving it, I can honestly say that I don't think it would make me feel any different about the game to find it had sold only 1 copy or 10 million copies.
