Naughty Dog Regrets Showing Uncharted So Early

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was one of the first PlayStation 3 titles shown during Sony's unveiling conference at E3 2005, and Naughty Dog has been on the frontlines with their Indiana Jones-inspired action adventure title every step of the way since. For some games that works, but when Uncharted became a target for criticism, the folks at Naughty Dog realized maybe they'd made a mistake pulling back the curtain so early, as studio co-presidents Evan Wells said to 1UP last week.

I kind of agree. I know they like to show whats coming to help sell systems (they = all 3 of the consoles). But its pretty annoying hearing about something, getting interested then finding out you have to wait a year or 2 or even 3.

1.3 - The things they show

are Tech Demo or shots because people want to see it. Then it gets close to the final product and what we see is not the same as the original, people get disappointed, that's the thing. ;o

So it's really hard for developers [Can we meet the expectation we set or did we set it so low that people will think it's garbage?]

6 - Why would you regret showing something that you're proud off ?..

If they regret this then they weren't sure about it being a great game...

For me and a LOT of real gamers & fanboys, the game is awesome and there's no need for anybody to feel regretful about buying it or ND showing it too soon for that matter.

We knew the game was coming, we saw development videos, we saw footage, we saw and we saw and we saw AND we LOVED the game.. It lives up to the hype in my book in every way.

Bottom line: If you're confident of your work and your creation, and if you know you did a great job with it there's absolutely NO NEED to regret ANYTHING. period

I don't get it either. I love the game, but I do despise the veil of secrecy that most game studios shroud their projects in, and Naughty Dog was refreshingly open and honest about Uncharted's development. I wish all studios could be this forthcoming.

After all, we are talking about video games and not nuclear weapons secrets here.

in that showers of criticism came in and forced the team to make the gameplay even better. The aiming system is a peace of cake now. I just bought it at my Circuit City; playing it and I am STUNNED!

I don't think it was a bad idea at all. They didn't oversaturate with screens, vids, and interviews, at least not until lately, when it was prime time to do so.

They took a chance, much like Insomniac did with Resistance, and I'm sure it will pay off. I doubt it reaches 2 million, though. :D
