White Engine development stalled, Final Fantasy XIII too?

At Square-Enix's fiscal meeting they candidly mentioned the White Engine development is moving at a sluggish pace. However, they are not abandoning creating their in house engine. Since the engine is the backbone for Final Fantasy XIII it seems likely that the Playstation 3 game will be further delayed. Square-Enix did not mention a date for Final Fantasy XIII (maybe now 2009?) or Dragon Quest IX, which was originally slated to come out this year.

According to dedicated fansite ff-xiii.net, Impress Group's recap of the fiscal meeting simply states that development of the White Engine is not stagnant. Ah the White engine. That engine that runs cross platform. So it has problems on the PS3 and probably delay of FFXIII to 2009? Ouch. That must hurt, another big title delayed again.

Ah well, now they have the time to get the game on the 360 and release it at the same time with the PS3 version. Nice work Square Enix!

Yes, the White Engine is cross-platform, but, with FFXIII, it's being utilised to take advantage of the Cell. 4 of the SPUs are being used! Tell me, how many SPUs does the 360 have...?

Square Enix is giving 360 gamers love with Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remant multi-plat. Be happy about that. 4.2 - I do not own an xbox 360,

but i was just looking on metacritic and out of the 20 top rated games on xbox360 i own 13 of them on other systems and at least 2 or 3 more of them are available elsewhere, currently i am playing Crysis on pc, and have plenty of games backlisted...so thanks for you concern, however i don't feel it necessary to buy an xbox360 for one game that i want to play that i cannot get at this time, however i am faithful that some time in the future your heros from bioware will make it available on pc because it is about them making money and not your happiness.

there is a possibility that it could lunch on the 360.I think it will benefit square enix to lunch it on both consoles in order for them to maximise profits and reach a wider audience because there is no denying the fact that it will be a fabulous game.

One thing i believe is that it will still push a lot of PS3s regardless of if it lunches on the 360.It might not warrant a push in hard ware for the 360 but it will sell a bit more software (but thats not certain)than the PS3 version,but the It will definitely be a system seller for the PS3.

The little @.@ at the end is me rolling my eyes. I know that its not coming to 360 ever. I wrote that because he wants every game thats exclusive and great on PS3 to come to 360. While i buy most multi-plats on ps3 (my preference) i buy the exclusives i'm interested in for the system it is released on. Thats why i work so that i can play all games and not wish and hope that an exclusive on a so called "rival" console flops or bombs. Be a gamer not a console troll.

Last I read the White Engine was up and running on both the PS3 and the 360. I can't think of many reasons to do this other than for development. If the 360 does not get FFXIII, it's a good possibility they will get some version of FF, possibly a side stoy or something similar.

Game development is expensive and having competition from another dev can also be costly. Square is already developing for the 360, so it's not like they are exclusive to one console.

21 - The white engine was PS3 only

until they decided to make it cross platform hence the delay. Dowgrading the engine to fit the 360's requirements may have caused the delay.

Don't forget that this game was supposed to developed for the PS2 but they changed their minds in 2005. They have to redo everything from scratch to actually work with the PS3's hardware. I'll welcome the delay as long as the game is amazing. RPGs are always long unless it's Mass Effect.

But honestly, I really didn't expect to see Final Fantasy XIII until 2009 at the earliest. I remember that XII seemed to take forever to come out in the States. Oh well, it was nice to dream. But as long as I know its coming out sooner or later, I don't care as long as it is coming out.

Are in full force today....with it being so close to turkey day you would think that gamers could be thankful for all consoles but even making valid points could lose you bubbles. Well im thankful for having a job that allows me to buy both consoles and games for both. Thankful that Uncharted is amazing and ME is looking great as well. On a final note i would like to be thankful for COD4 but i spend time ranking up online just to play the next day and my rank is not the same my classes are all messed up but other than that thankful for the big @$$ plate of chitlins i'm gonna eat.
