CVG Fallout 3 Interview: "360 is our lead platform"

Segment of the Interview:

CVG: What are you working on at the moment with Fallout 3?

Hines: We're working towards getting everything into the game. The world hasn't finished being built yet so we're still in the process of putting all of the content in the game, fleshing everything out and playing quests. That sort of thing.

CVG: Are all three versions of the game at the same stage of development?

Hines: For the most part. 360 is our lead platform. Our devs are just big fans of the dev tools available on the 360 and so that's our lead. But PC, PS3, 360 - they're all chugging along.

When you consider that the PS3 audience is smaller than that of the Xbox 360 and is primarily made up of JPRG fans it makes sense that they would develop it for a console on which there are a higher percentage of people who prefer the western style RPG.

That and of course the fact that as the article says, the Xbox is easier to develop for.

Oblivion was a port, and it's the superior version of the console ports. So it's all good. I highly doubt Bethesda gonna disappoint the PS3 fans. However, a delay i might expect.

Nah, This is one port I'm not worried about... Oblivion was better for the ps3 in everyway. Framerate, draw distance and graphics. They'll do a good job on the PS3 version. They have a working knowledge of the system now and their 1st game was amazing.

It shouldn't have to be so 1 sided, yet... it always is with fanboys like yourself.

what ever happend too "the most powerful console out on the market"??? please...Im not trying too make trouble..but it seems like every friggan game on the ps3 has problems...yet some people admit it...yet still accept them...lets be honest here...warhawk not keeping stats until a while ago...drops from multiplayer games like cod4...game ending bugs on assasins creed...its from the firmware...most people recognize it...Im sorry but it seems that some people accept these problems and say..well maybe next time....its been almost a year now and the excuses are running out folks...its just so frustrating that some people blindly accept these problems...I would glady purchase a ps3 if there were reasons beside "wait till 08 or till mgs4"/

Oh and also about oblivion...there was a patch for lighting a other effects that made the ps3 version better for the 360...so both are on par.

You can't possibly think the Ps3's programming problems will always be around, can you? Please... they've already gotten 10 folds better, what's another year going to do for development? there will be a time when Ps3 is a smooth operation, just because you're a fanboy and you're too poor to own more than 1 system don't make it right to harsly judge another. PS3 will be fine. If not more diverse with what it offers in house... Diversity is the key to attract new consumers. And there is always new consumers who haven't bought it.

I see Sony doing way more "things" on the side than anyone right now. Eye toy, Home, Singstar... these things will add up.

6 - Oblivion GOTY edition: 360 looks better than PS3?

I've been reading that the reason why Oblivion PS3 looked better than the 360 version is because between the time of Xbox 360's release and PS3's, Bethesda came up with a better technique and coding for rendering and lightning. The new rendering technique was included in the PS3 version when it's release. However, because the 360 version had already come out before that, it did not have the better rendering.

Now that the "Game of the Year" versions have come out, the Xbox 360 version has been updated with the new graphic technique as well. So now supposedly the Xbox 360 version looks better than the PS3 version, again.

There have been debates and arguments about it, but I have not not seen any visual comparison for it at all. Because it's considered as an old game, no other site was interested in comparing them.

I'd like to see some comparisons for the GOTY editions of Oblivion between the two versions.

6.1 - That shader patch only went so far

If anything, the 360 version is now up to par with the PS3 version, but in no way is it superior. The only time that it was superior was when the PS3 version didn't even exist.

Anyway, I can see the fanboys eating this one up because they care more about a system losing the console race and hating a company than actually playing games. Unfortunately, this will never, ever change.

@ 3.1: I agree completely. Bethesda is an extremely talented studio, and to lump them in with the likes of Ubisoft, EA and the other studios who can't seem to get a grip with PS3 hardware and porting games, they go the extra mile and actually learn the mechanics. Hence the quality port that was Oblivion, even with the extra year of development time.

I think that this game will be stellar no matter what platform gamers buy it on, and I can't wait to read more about it in the future.

6.2 - Bethesda is NOT a talented studio

You probably don't remember Daggerfall, but Bethesda made horribly buggy and generic games. They have always been making horribly buggy and generic games.

The only reason their games sell is because there is only one other major studio that makes Western RPGs, i.e., BioWare. All other great Western RPG makers: Origin System, Black Isle, Sir Tech, and New World are gone - and they were all greater and better than Bethesda, who were HORRIBLE and considered a mediocre developer back in the 1990s.

Today, only BioWare and Bethesda remain as the two major Western RPG makers. BioWare makes RPGs *only* for Microsoft's platforms (Windows and Xbox,) and BioWare makes ONE new title every two to three years. So that leaves Bethesda as the *only* Western RPG makers for multi-platforms.

In short, Bethesda is successful only because they have no competition.

You mention Black Isle studios... now THERE is a talented dev studio.

There have indeed been comparisons. Read just about every review written on the game for each platform. They are pretty explicit that the Xbox 360 version is the superior version. That is why it consistently gets a higher rating.
