Xbox 360 Surpasses Total Xbox Sales as Japan's Game Market Climbs in October

GameDaily BIZ has received the latest monthly Famitsu marketing data service report for the period covering October 1 – 28. Although software sales fell by over 14 percent, hardware sales climbed 30 percent, resulting in overall industry growth of 2.2 percent.

We forget that Microsoft is a new kid on the block. Sony had a huge fanbase before Microsoft entered the scene. They still do, but Microsoft has taken a big chunk of it. If they have already passed Xbox 1 sales in this short amount of time, then it shows definite growth. They will only get bigger over time.

When Sony came out with PS1, they revolutionized gaming. When Xbox came out, Microsoft didn't revolutionize anything (except for having a hard drive in a game console). They were just trying to do what Sony did, but do it better. In my opinion and in the opinion of many (but not in the opinion of everyone, I know, I know) they have succeeded at doing just that.

LAwman i am sorry but as much as I like the 360 and ps3 I don't think both consoles has a chance on the Wii. I still don't get why people buy this console. I thought the fad would go away in a year but it seems it won't go away and here to stay. So I believe the Wii will win despite ps3 and 360 has better 3rd party games like COD 4, assasins creed, and Orange box.

at least they arrived at 5,well....at least they arrived close to 500,000 in half the time.in 2 more years,they will hit a million sold in japan.can't wait to see that.

while the other two companies are selling over a million consoles in EACH region in 1 year,lets see if microsoft can pull it off in "FOUR."

in order to win overall,you must sell consoles in EACH region.right now the celebration of a onesided victory will be short lived.

can't get to 100 million that way by selling only to the FPS crowd.but good luck to them.

Yet the 360 has more racing/sports/RPG's/Sim games than the PS3. Though I think they are tided on Adventure games. Also the 3 big PS games is *gasp* a shooter. So stop with your stupid as hell "360 is nothing but shooters" crap.

6 - I don't think that the 360

will ever be big in Japan. But Microsoft has taken steps in the right direction. They are trying to produce more Eastern inspired games for the Japanese gaming Community.

They are lifting 360 sales marginally. Some good examples are Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and Ace Combat 6. Lost Odyssey and Infinite Undiscovery will most likely also have a positive effect. Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Katamari are also newcomers.

Overall the amount of Eastern themed type games is far greater on the 360 than on the original Xbox. As long as Microsoft can earn the Japanese support from the games producers themselves, they will have good market recognition even if the 360 is struggling saleswise in Japan when it comes to hardware.

The new numbers show an impressive growth for Sony... An unprecedented one, actually. 200,000 units sold last month. That's incredible for a system that's been lambasted and only selling 60,000 a month. I think Sony might be on a great stride back to competing. < notice the competing. "ha"

Sakaguchi... the one who responsible for Sony pictures to lost big bucks. Final Fantasy: Spirit Within. Almost single handedly kill Squaresoft that he built and now turn his back on Sony and embraces Microsoft. I think they are good match, You can never kill Microsoft with huge loses. They are rich.

It was actually a 4 year gap between the release of the xbox & that of the 360. The GC & wii was a 5 year gap and the PS2 & PS3 was 6 year gap.

I do believe the gap btw the PS3 & PS4 will most likely be 7 years.

10 - this is what will happen for xbox 360

20-25 million sold in america
10-15 million sold in europe
1--5 million in japan

not bad in 5 years.but no matter how you count it.that's still not 100 million system sold.

but nintendo and sony will sell at least 20-30 million sold or more in EACH country.that's 60 to 100 million wiis or ps3s.

still doesn't look like microsoft will end up first.just good market share to sell games.

but that's most likely what will happen unless microsoft has some type of runaway hit that shows up on 360.

Too broad of a range... Analyst are much better at hitting within 1 to 1.5 million. A good one, anyways.

Me, I see it like this.

Xbox 360 U.S. - 23 million to 25 million
xbox 360 U.K. - 10 million to 12 million
xbox 360 Japan - 1 to 2 million

These are pretty damn acurate with what people in simexchange say too. Wii will probably go on to sell 100+million units. Not besting the Ps2, but easily best the Ps3's high price and shoddy media support of 50 to 55 million units sold worldwide.

That's my take by the end of this generation.

This is great news for the Xbox 360. It is very hard for a western console company to crack the Japanese market and Microsoft is doing very well to already have surpassed the original Xbox sales numbers. There's many more years to go and hopefully Xbox 360 can eventually sell a few million in Japan, paving the way for the next generation Xbox to be even more of a success in that country
